Tell me the good, bad, ugly.
My oldest was accepted to Grad school at Montana State. We are in Pennsylvania so it's quite a distance...
Cost of living? Environment?
Any input is appreciated!

Bozeman is beautiful! Great town. Very much a college town. Huge rivals with the other big school- U of MT in Missoula. Two great ski areas within an hour away. Seriously, some of the best skiing in the US. Yellowstone is nearby. Lots of hiking, fishing, etc for warmer months. Have a neat museum there. However cost of living is high probably highest in the state. House and rental prices are ridiculous- driven both by the college and tourism. MT has no sales tax. But they make up for it in high property taxes. They have a small airport. Fun little place to vacation- we usually do a long ski weekend in the winter and several summer trips (or passes thru).

Also, if he doesn't own a Subaru, he won't fit in! Just kidding but they are a very popular option because of the AWD. He will want a car that is good in the snow; they get a lot and the streets often don't get plowed before they get packed down by traffic.

I just know Sheldon from Big Bang Theory goes there. Hangs out with the other Boze-ites.

My BIL did his undergrad there many years ago, so no idea what current cost of living is, but he and sis loved it and have been back a few times to visit classmates who stayed and to ski.

Thanks everyone! They are giving him a stipend but it isn't much. He is going out there in a couple weeks to look it over.
The Mom in me wants him closer; the practical me would love to have him experience it!

My bosses DS went to school there and loved it. He graduated last year. He loves to hunt and fish so it was right up his alley and he had plenty of opportunities to be in the outdoors. He's in Seattle now and hates it. But he got a great job offer from Boeing so he had to follow the jobs. I know his little sister is seriously considering going there as well in two years. She really liked the atmosphere.
Montana is a beautiful state. They can have some crazy weather though. I've driven across it many times to visit my mom when she lived in Minnesota.

Love Montana. My husband is from butte and we went to college there.
Bozeman is a very trendy town with a lot of outside money. The airport is a good one. I know a lot of students live in Belgrade since housing was cheaper there.
Be warned . Montana has a vicious state income tax.
