I feel your pain, My nephew's name was legally changed when he was 10 years old. He took the court papers to the DMV when he got his drivers license and they did issue the license with his updated name. Apparently, his mother (my sister) never finished the entire process to amend his birth certificate. He is now trying to get an internship, as he is a college senior, and all of the agencies require a birth certificate with his current name to complete a background check. I feel terrible for him, as all the good internships have been snapped up. We are on our third try, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the latest set of papers we submitted to the Capitol will work. sigh - this may be in my son's future - so far bringing the original birth certificate (with his birth name), the court paperwork from his name change and his drivers license (with the current name) seems to have been sufficient for work and for the enlistment paperwork (so far - he's still in the process). I hope it's sufficient because changing his birth certificate has been a nightmare of a process...we needed a notarised form and a copy of our marriage certificate and $$ and then they kicked it back to us because the marriage certificate doesn't state explicitly that it is my first marriage, sigh. And we're in a different state than he was born which complicates matters.
