I'm considering buying a set of Alex drawers from IKEA: tall Alex unit. But I think the deeper drawers would be more functional for me if they weren't so deep. Are there handy and appropriately sized inserts that will fit in the deeper ALEX drawers? Thanks!

Ha, I'm thinking about using these in my room, too. I'm curious to hear the answer!

Which style are you thinking of, Alissa?
I just realized that I could move my desk over and fit two of the wider units on top of each other beside my desk, which would be totally awesome and amazing. Hmm.

I don't know about inserts. But I wanted to say I really like those drawers. I have two of the Sterilite plastic drawer sets that I want to replace. I wish IKEA was closer.

They are great looking drawers and I've heard so many good things about them! I'm thinking about replacing my stack of Michael's/Jetmax cubes.

I hope some more peas chime in on these. I have heard that they aren't great for punch storage due to the weight.

Hmm. I'm thinking of using two of these, one on either end, and buying one of their desktops to go on top. I currently have the knock off Pottery Barn Project Table from Target. It's awesome, but too big for my new room I'm not planning on putting paper in them, but just often used things. I'd really like to make one of them hold my embellishments that I've sorted by color, so I'd definitely need some sort of divided inserts.

I have one of the wide Alex drawer units and one of the narrow. I use the wide one mostly to store punches, but have started to worry about the weight in the drawers, so am lightening the load a bit and using the top 2 drawers instead to store die cuts, tags, and other bits and bobs for Project Life. I'm using a couple of the trays from the Project Life core kits to store that stuff in those shallow drawers. In my narrow Alex drawers, one insert I use that I really like is THIS spice drawer insert from IKEA, which works great for storing washi tapes and those small American Crafts ribbon and twine spools. They fit nicely in those long drawers. I currently have 2 in a drawer, but think maybe one more might even fit.

Ha, I also want to get some of the low Alex drawers to go under my Linnmon tables. at the moment I'm using old filing drawers. I'm not sure about inserts to go into the deeper drawers to give say 2 layers. Maybe you could stack two boxes or trays on top of each other? I saw something saying that the top drawers are about 3 3/4 inches deep and the deeper ones just under 6 inches.
Hope someone who has them will chime in.

I am planning on purchasing two of the smaller units and one of the taller 9 drawer units. I still have to have my room painted so I'm holding off until the fall. These items will be the last to go in my scrap room. Just beware that I have seen instances of the drawers bowing out/down due to heavy items. I think you can reinforce them with a piece of wood which is more than likely what I'm going to do just to prevent any issues.

I'm not sure what type of inserts you want but I have the paper trays from Display Dynamics (Found at scrapbook.com) in my expedit and they fit perfectly

I have the smaller/wider Alex unit as the base of my desk in my room. I really like how the drawers slide out effortlessly. One thing I DON'T like about the drawers? They don't come out all the way, so there is about 6" at the back of the drawer that I can't access very easily.
I used the wire tray things from The Container Store to organize my drawers. The Alex drawers (at least in the short/wide version) aren't very tall so I had a hard time finding something that would fit in them.

I have the short/wide version with shallow drawers so I'm probably not much help but I love mine it's jam packed with inks, embellishments, and all my alphas. On the other hand my deeper desk drawers drive me nuts because I can't find storage for them and all the small items end up on the bottom with me having to dig. So I'll be watching this thread closely.

I have the smaller unit that Alissa linked and I put little bins from Dollar Tree in them to break up the drawers a bit and to help store various things so they didn't get lost in the deepness of the drawers. For height reference, the three deep drawers are as tall as a standard mason jar.

I have the shorter wider Alex unit sitting in its box in the middle of my dining room where it has been since I bought it a few months ago! I think that will be on my project list for this weekend!

How deep are the bottom drawers? Could you use those plastic CD crates they sell at WM each year around school time? I'm sure there are other stores that sell them. I know they fit 6x6 paper pads perfectly.
