I don't know why I am surprised when Studio Calico is again defending Anna Maria Wolniak after she blatantly copied another artist, but they are. Here is the link to the artist's instagram. link
SC did pull down the "tutorial", but the image still remains in AMW's gallery and they are saying they are not in the wrong. Even less shocking is the flippant and snotty way April apparently responded to the artist.

Not at all surprised either. The Peas, and now the Refupeas, put this company on my radar ages ago. ETA: having said that, I started to wonder how long all of the shenanigans have been going on. Must be years now, surely?

The page you linked has obviously been re.moved.

It was an art print by Jessica Rowe was copied exactly then posted a tutorial was posted on how to paint it on the SC blog, linked it in the DT gallery and never mentioned the original artist. Someone posted on SC asking if They had worked with Jessica and of course it was ignored, but after the artist was notified SC pulled everything down. Jessica Rowe had two links in her instagram site yesterday saying she had spoken to the CEO of the company who told her they were well I within their rites to post the image that was copied, but SC did end up taking everything down. I don't know what happened to her instagram, but they were there last night. I imagine .sc went after her and had her take them down.

They have shown over and over who they are as a company.
With scrapbook companies dying all the time, you would think they would have a clue about what indecent behavior and a lack of integrity get you in this business...their time will come.

I've had SC on my "never buy" list for years. Their quality is horrible.

After the copied paper design fiasco that happened previously, I decided to not promote or give AMW any of my attention at all. I removed her blog from my reading list, and I won't re-Pin or Pin any of her layouts or designs.

It is still on her (AM) blog. in one post she credits the artist and in another says it was an inspiration from a tshirt on pinterest. I get the artists gather inspiration from each other and the world around them. But really how hard is it to honestly given credit and make something that is your own- she could have made a watercolor cactus but didn't have to use the exact placement as the original piece.

I read an interesting post on a blog elsewhere that although things that are posted online are at risk of being copied, it also means that there are lots of people who recognise when work is used illegally. It's sad when it has to be down to the consumers though to police stuff.

It is very interesting that they keep having so many followers even after with all their crummy business practices. I was a member for a short time because I found myself buying the kits on the secondary market. But it didn't last very long for me. I didn't want to support them or their fans.

I think people find it very easy to look past "victimless" crimes, in favour of the pretty things they want!

As a mom of an aspiring graphic designer/sequential artist, things like this make me worried about DD's artwork that she has posted online. It's watermarked, but there's no guarantee of its safety anymore. I'm surprised SC is letting AWM do work for them still. I thought she got the ax after the last time.

WOW--those 2 paintings are just about identical! AMW did use a different shade of green though.

I have no words. SC's blatant support of a thief, and all those die-hard SC fans that defend anything they do. SMH

I think it's one thing to take inspiration and do it yourself vs creating a lesson on how to copy the original... (I'm having déjà vu from the MISTI thread)...
I have no problem with her taking inspiration and giving credit to the original artist, but using it in a business context (to generate business/revenue), for herself/SC, is way over the line...
How hard would it have been for her to share what she did, credit the original artist, and then reach out to that artist and as for them to do a feature blog post or painting tutorial? That sounds like it could be a win-win - publicity for both, and exposure to audiences that don't usually read each other's blogs...

I think it is wrong in every since of the word. She copied it - not just used it for inspiration. It should have never been uploaded to the SC site as DT work.

Her blog post has been edited to say where she was "inspired" from, but what is really odd is it is still in the gallery with no notes there and all the comments were edited by SC at the same time. www.studiocalico.com/galleries/155422-b-day-boyand this is on AMW's blog! "PLEASE Do not copy or use any of my blog content for profit. I also ask you not adapt or modify any of my projects and photos as they are protected to copyright. " SC could send a message by letting her go, I cannot believe they are continuing to cover up for her. Shameful.

Seems to me that April Foster has the exact same morals as AMW. She has proven this over and over again.

Sigh. I have this little unicorn that keeps thinking that one of these days, things will improve over there. Because I get the PL kits and I like the PL kits, and I have tried other PL kits and do not like those as well. I've stopped shopping outside of my sub much, and I get a bad taste in my mouth every time there is a post or layout from AMW in particular. I may finally have to pull the plug. *Rage hands.*

...that's not being 'inspired by' something, that is making an 'almost- exact copy' of something. There's no other way to say that.

Wow, I can't believe she did it again!!! I follow SC on YouTube, so I watched this the other day. It's funny, because as I was watching it, it didn't seem very fluid, now I know why... She was copying it for the tutorial. It's insulting to SC customers that they keep her around, freaking ridiculous!

I remember people being shocked when AMW was chosen for SC's design team due to her being accused of stealing someone's work. And dIdn't SC recently release some leaf designs that were VERY similar to another designer's? it makes me wonder about their other 'exclusive' designs.
