UPDATE 4.19.15 Just placed my order with Amazon for the Silhouette Cameo. Estimated delivery date is Friday. Now to put out the old Wishblade and dust the computer table off and be ready for the Silhouette. Thanks a bunch for all your input.
Yes, I was still using the ole blue Wishblade and it went bonkers yesterday. I had it for nine years so I believe I got my money's worth.
So I have been looking at the Silhouette Cameo - is it the best one? Or is there something else I should research?
TIA

I don't know what a Wishblade is, exactly, but I do love my Silhouette Cameo.
I think "best" is a subjetive term, it really just depends on what features you want and what you'll use your cutter for.
What did you love about your Wishblade? What are you looking for in a new machine?
I love my Silhouette Cameo because it does everything I want and need: I only want and need to cut cardstock, vellum and paper. I could cut vinyl, very thin chipboard, and fabric. I can cut a full 12x12 piece of paper, which is what I use my Cameo for nearly 100% of the time. I can design and use any image I want, buy them, create my own, resize and alter as I wish. I have purchased approximately $10 worth of files, because I had a Silhouette gift card to use for downloads. I have not needed or wanted to purchase any other files. I like that once the machine is purchased, the only other expense is consumables like blades and mats. I can use the software on my computer when I want, make files, save them, and cut them when I want. I don't need to rely on an independent website.

The Wishblade was a cutter that preceded the Silhouette but made by Xyron. I have been cutting Silhouette files with the Wishblade for several years. I was just wondering if something new was coming out. Thanks for your input.

I love my Cameo! I think it's a great choice and you aren't tied to the internet to cut. Amazon has lots of nice bundles and free shipping: amzn.to/1InNMsI

If you don't need the 12x12 cutting ability, you could get the Silhouette Portrait. It is a shrunk down version of the Cameo. It uses the same software. It would be similar to the Wishblade you had. It is a little cheaper.

Were you using your Wishblade to cut fonts or just shapes? My sister has a fairly old pink Wishblade, I don't think she's ever cut a shape with it, only titles for scrapbooking pages using the fonts on her computer. Can you cut any font on your computer using a Cameo?
I'm still using my Cricut and the outdated version of Make The Cut (the version ProvoCraft sued over) to cut fonts from my computer.

The Wishblade and Silhouette were both made by the same manufacturer, but with slight differences in the software and different labels on them. The Wishblade was not actually made by Xyron.
The similarities between the Cameo and Wishblade software made it fairly easy for me to transition from my old blue Wishblade to the Cameo. I loved my Wishblade, but I love my Cameo more. There have been some changes to the Silhouette (Cameo) software, so it may not be quite as easy to use the new software for you, but there are plenty of tutorials online, especially at the forum Silhouette Plus.
There are a lot of electronic cutters on the market now, so which machine is "best" really depends on what you want to do with it, but unless you want to cut much heavier materials, the Cameo should be a good replacement for the Wishblade. The Cameo can cut heavier materials than the Wishblade could, just not as heavy as the Cricut Explore or KnK Zing and other machines.

SnowWhite I was using the Wishblade to cut titles, shapes, frames, cards and envelopes.
Scrapnnana One more question - I already many silhouette files (which I downloaded the last couple years)....will I lose these when installing the new software?
Thanks to all - the best deal is at Amazon . . . . guess this will be my Mother's Day present early.
