3 1/2 hr drive is nothing. It will be fun and exciting adventure. I have done it before. Once not by choice. My sister had to cancel last minute and I had a great time. Not all scrapers are friendly like every group but for the most part they are. Go and enjoy

Yes, I have. My friend pulled out last minute and I still went. It was 2.5 hours away, but I've driven 8 hours by myself before. The 2 ladies next to me were very nice and invited me to sit with them at meals. Also when people found out I was by myself they invited me over for meals. I am friendly, but also an introvert so don't need to be constantly chit chatting. Don't want to talk to me. Ok. I'll be over here working on my stuff listening to music. Want to talk. I am cool with that too. Same thing happened to me and I decided to go. I made new friends. I too can be an introvert so I used the time to work on my projects- got a lot more done that way!

Thanks for all the advice. I can't believe all the people that say a 3.5 hr drive isn't far.. And I'm not concerned about driving. I just get bored and such. My attention span is minimal. I will need a good play list I think. I am very excited about going to the store. And I have talked to the owner about attending and she said there are people that go alone so they try to seat them together. Sleeping in a room alone I like, even if I was going with friends I would rather do that. Now here's the price of it see if that changes everyone's minds.
$500 for Friday to Sunday. 11am Friday to 3pm Sunday.
You get a 25% off the store, or the on site Store., all meals, snacks, goody bag, I think there are make and takes, accommodations. Its not all due at once there are 3 payments.

Have you?
There is a great retreat that I have always wanted to go to. I haven't in the past for financial, or lack there of someone to go with me.
I am determined to go to next years. Its a 3.5 hr drive, its at a nice place, great food and accommodations, goody bag, store on site and host store is on way to retreat. Now for single occupancy its a hefty fee. And its a smaller crop I'd say 40 people. Plus you get your own 6ft table.
I so miss going to crop be it a 12 hr or weekend at the LSS. The LSS's in our area are gone.
I'm normally shy, but at crops I wasn't. I don't have kids, so I'm not escaping for a weekend, I just like being at a crop.
My concern is its a far drive, its expensive and well to actually shop in a real store and not online...ooohh its going to be an expensive weekend.
So have you done it. Have you gone away to a crop / retreat on your own that was a far distance away? Where in canada is it? Maybe I could go with you! I have wanted to go to one for years but no one I know likes scrapbooking as much as I do.

I have gone to several retreats alone. Go for it! I'm sure you won't be lonely. Especially if the store owner said the seat the singles together. I have never regretted going by myself. go and have a great time.

I'm an experienced sb weekend getaway attendee, but YES! I went to one a few years ago by myself and was seated with 3 ladies I did not know. By the end of the weekend we were good friends and we meet up at crops now often!
I drive 4 hours twice a month or so to visit my daughter and grandson, so you do get used to it. Get yourself some good audio books--mysteries or easy listening romance, or crime stories, whatever floats your boat, and the time goes by quickly.
$500 is not out of line for a hotel getaway. Here in the NJ, NY, PA area, we are paying $400-450 for a weekend.
Have fun!

It's funny you posted this today. My daughter and I went to a retreat last winter that I've always wanted to go to. I loved it and had a wonderful time, she not so much... she doesn't want to go back this year she told me this morning. So I've been contemplating today going by myself. I think I am going to go. So should you!!

I would go in a heartbeat! If you have the money and follow all the tips above, you will have a blast and make some new friends. Besides you could invite them to join this board and keep in touch through scrapbooking!

I went to one that a group of gals (the core group) in VA did down in the Outer Banks. They all met at a LSS and started up, and each year it got larger and larger, with new folks coming each time. I knew a couple of them through Two Peas and got on to another SB board that they did all the planning for the week on. One the the things done ahead of time was some meal, snacks and drinks planning, as well as making up "goodie bags" each person brought something unique to their area, SB related. (I brought some Washington D.C. and Maryland related stuff.)
This was a wonderful and fun bunch of gals, and I met a couple more gals that were from near me up in MD. It was a bit of a drive, and a gal I van pooled with, we went down the evening before and spent the night in a motel before meeting the group at one woman's house to pack up everything and caravan to the rental house.
OMG! The rental house was AWESOME! The meals (we took turns making and cleaning up) were good, there were other things to do besides scrap, there was an LSS nearby, it was just a wonderful. I was a little nervous, but had a great time, and made new friends.
If I were you, I would try to make some sort of contact with some of the others going, at least to plan on snacks or "surprises."

Part of me would love to go to a retreat, but the practical side of me thinks of all the scrap stuff I could buy for the fee.
There is a local retreat. I looked at the prices and decided it wasn't an option for me. Would I go alone if I could get past that? Maybe. But I have never forgotten the one crop I attended alone and felt supremely alone the entire time I was there. I left early.
However, some gals have gone alone and made new friends, so it might be absolutely fabulous!
It's a gamble. Some people will be really nice and include you, and some will ignore you or deliberately shut you out. If you are willing to go and scrap and are not going to feel disappointed if other scrappers there are cliquish, by all means go!

I first started going to crops on my own. I drove west to Georgia, 5 hours away (I have driven coast to coast, alone, many times). They were Thurs-Sun. I went by myself. I always had a great time. We slept in cabooses at one place and cabins at another. I recommend going and enjoy yourself.

I'm contemplating driving about 3-1/2 hours away to a CKC in November by myself. The thought both excites me and causes minor anxiety.
