Using a maxi pad makes sense, posting it on Facebook not so much...

My sister used to be an EMT. They stocked the ambulance with tampons and maxi pads. They were better than most other things to absorb blood and stop bleeding.

Bread, I have a friend who swears by this. Not a good idea at all. I have a friend who cut her hand while slicing a bagel. Not a deep cut at all, but definitely deep enough that it bled. She rinsed it out, applied a bandage, and went on with her life. The next morning, her hand was so swollen she couldn't close it. There was yeast from the bread in the wound and it caused a major problem. I don't remember what they gave her to treat it, but the dr gave her a list of things to watch out for and told her in no uncertain terms that if she even suspected one of those things was happening, she needed to get her butt to the ER asap. The Yakuza have stock in feminine hygiene in Japan because when they have gun fights (and the press generally doesn't report them) they use maxi pads to stop the flow of blood until they can get themselves to a doctor. When the Hanshin (Kobe) earthquake happened in 1995 it was the Yakuza who had all the diapers and feminine supplies for women because they have them for their own use...and it ain't for their kids!

Maxi pads are often on earthquake first aide kit lists because one you need an emergency stash and two for cuts that need more than a bandaid.

Whoa! The quote function on my phone does not work properly!
What I was trying to say was:
I was actually just wondering yesterday if you can use normal super glue on a cut? Or is there a medical equivalent you can get over the counter? I cut my hand in a very inconvenient place where a band aid would be useless. Sorry to hijack but does anyone know?

When I had my wisdom teeth removed many years ago, I was told to use cut up Kotex or tampons to stuff in my mouth and help stop bleeding..... lol

Maxi pads were standard for cuts in the Boy Scout first aid kit we took camping.

My DSO cut his hand with one of his power tools and it really needed stitches. But being a guy, he didn't want to go to the doctor so he just got some normal household super glue, pressed the edges of the wound together, applied the super glue and held it until the glue set. I'm not sure that it would be recommended, but in the absence of real medical treatment it's probably ok. He was lucky (dumb luck I reckon), it didn't get infected.

There is a liquid bandage out there. I cut myself pretty good a few months ago on a rotary cutter and my husband was determined to super glue the wound shut. I wouldn't let him. But I've heard its been done. i did go buy the liquid bandage stuff just in case I do it again, he can then super glue using the sterile, made for wounds bandage.

The liquid bandage stuff is equivalent to normal super glue according to my surgeon family member. I saw him use normal super glue on himself after slicing himself carving the turkey - and yes we have him loads of grief about that!!!!

Super Glue was used during Vietnam to hold wounds together until they could get to the medic for stitches. Today, a form of it is used with or instead of traditional stitches after surgery. They used it to close up my son's back after spinal surgery last year. No stitches or staples visible from the outside - just glue and tape.

The second time we took DS to the ER for stitches they used superglue instead and after that I added liquid bandage to our first aid kit.

I've stocked the first aid kit I keep at the barn and in the horse trailer for the horse with maxi pads for years. I can't count how many times i've had to use them. They are perfect.

One of my daycare parents was an RN on a helicopter ambulance. He told me that super glue is 0.1 ph off from Dermabond and he uses it in his home when needed.

I talked to an ER nurse who was gluing up ds's head once, and he said he kept unopened super glue in his hiking backpack in case anyone needed to be glued back together. So I think unopened super glue is fine.

My son used to keep tampons in his cricket kit to use for nose bleeds. Works well. Got some weird looks at times though!
