Tear up their acres of green grass and turn those lawns into community gardens and arid landscaping
I live on the desert side of Washington state and it makes me cringe to see these huge green green lawns when we are facing drought conditions.

We've been in drought conditions for years. It is rough. We've lost over 800 homes to fires in the last 2 summers. I also teach at a school that has a huge play area for 700 kids that is grass. During the worst years, it is pretty awful, but having kids play (and they play all sports and games) on anything other than grass is also pretty dangerous. I don't know what the answer is.

The story profiled a mom taking her children to the church every morning to shower and brush their teeth then taking them to school. Water conservation has to become a priority. I've been discussing ways to save water with my children.

Another option would be drought tolerant/resistant grass.
