GoodwillI shop the local Goodwill online auction outlet a lot, they have the best deals. This set of vintage silverwear, completer pieces and the box were $11.01.

Grom Pea the puppet theatre and puppets sound really cool, and like you got a great deal. What a timely find for the duck tub. I am confused about something though, and figure it must be autocorrect? What is the 'thanks'? I don't know anything about them, but I have heard that vintage thermoses are very collectible. Neat idea for Christmas time.
K8smom, what a lovely set and awesome price! We do not have a Goodwill auction here unfortunately.

beachgirl55, it's an addiction! Be careful! I try to limit myself to only the local Portland area outlet so I don't have to pay shipping, you can search by location. I have almost completed a full set of Johnson Bros historic america dishes, I've scored a lot of Pottery Barn items (you can also search by name) and I've purchased a ton of calligraphy supplies for pennies. Here's the link: Goodwill online

I bought a Pokemon Pikachu cake pan at Goodwill. I was able to sell it on my work for sale board and made a quick $10.

This isn't a glamorous find by any means but I'm still tickled. I bought a king-size set of sheets, like new, Company Store brand, for $7.50 at my local Goodwill. Came home and laundered them with detergent & bleach, dried them and they went right on our bed. They're a high thread count and feel so wonderful. I checked the price online and the four pieces were nearly $250 retail. No wonder they feel so good!

I love goodwill online, I've been to local pick up like 4 weeks in a row! I also like finding vintage stuff like vintage sesame street books since media mail isn't too bad. Tomorrow is my last pick up for a while, I need to start using the stuff I bought or will have to re donate it, lol!

View AttachmentFound this at Goodwill yesterday for $2. It looks new. I have never had a red purse before and I don't wear red, but I LOVE IT! It is my new everyday purse. If you carry a black or brown purse, people expect it to cordon eight with your coat and your outfit in your shoes etc. but if you carry a red purse, no one really expects it to coordinate. Therefore, you are an uncoordinated, just stylish and fun! I love Road purses and yours is really cute. Enjoy it

I've been checking out old pieces of pine furniture to upcycle. I posted photos last week of a gorgeous dresser I found, and I have also bought two other pieces.
This one cost me £10 (about $15).
And this one was £25 ($38). I have always wanted a rocking chair, and this one is big, solid and in perfect condition.

Okay, Emma's prom dress update, as promised! Before: plain white insert, a little too long and a smidge too big at the waist. After: alterations finished, added a layer of pink chiffon over salmon colored into the insert, and then added pink crystals into the top. :-)

I need to get out and thrift shop for a bunch of vases. I have a feeling that I'll just end up at IKEA unless I find 17 vases that work for what I need in one spot. But fun, different, cheap vases would be a lot of fun. The camera is very cool. Check varage sale. I was looking or some and I found scads of them.

I would do garage sales because I know there's a ton of them available... everyone has vases to sell. However I want them cheap (a buck or less) since people will take them home and I want them to be relatively the same since I only want to create one centrepiece that we can replicate multiple times. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd definitely go the garage sale route. I just don't want to do the work involved. LOL

You sign up for your area. It's quite popular here - maybe not so much back east?

Grom Pea, I thought that it might be thermos, lol, but wasn't sure if I'd missed something, or maybe it was a regional term for one of the other items you'd bought, etc. Lesley, super buys on the furniture. I love that little cabinet. Candleangie, that dress was very pretty with the white, but I LOVE the colour you've added to it. Your dd looks beautiful. You are so talented. Grinningcat, Caledonia town-wide garage sale is June 6th. I bet that you could go out and in the first hour have all of the vases you need. You wouldn't have to go out multiple weekends in a row. I love the idea of different vases for each table. LOVE seeing everyone's finds!

They all need to be tall so that's really the only tricky part (I'm leaning a vinyl record with a customized label against the vase so it needs the height) and cost around a buck. Oakville's must be coming up too. I should find that out.

Paid $6.00 for the two of them!!! www.creative-expressions.uk.com/images/uploadpics/CH92579.jpgAlso got a new box of art pastels for $2.99 and a bag of new, mostly Christmas rubber stamps...a whopping 22 of them for $6.99!

So, I went to maybe 5 yard sales and came home with a rubber duck and a kids meal toy (my son put his mouth all over so I felt obligated to buy).
My other son had better luck buying some comic books and video games. He took the games to a store that buys used games. He got a store credit and I'm not sure what he bought. I know the last time he went there he got a like new thick comic book for $5.00 that usually sells for over $20.00 at comic book stores.

So what is the secret to successful thrifting? You peas obviously have it down pat. I only find junk and over-priced junk. I seriously try to think outside the box when I look, to see if I can at least re-purpose stuff, but I find nothing like what you all find. I keep thinking the best stuff would be in older, long established neighborhoods. Like where people have lived in their homes for 15-2 years. But then I think about competing with the garage sale vultures that show up befoe the stuff is even out.

But then I think about competing with the garage sale vultures that show up befoe the stuff is even out. As gypsy girl said, luck and timing but for me it's that I can't be shopping for something in particular. I just have to know that something is a good deal and I want to get it. If I was only thrifting for specific wish list items I'd come home empty handed all the time, but for example last Halloween I wanted a black hoodie or jacket to make my son a count con count costume. I found a jacket for $5, but saw a sign that kids clothing was 10 for $10. I decided to look around and found two pairs of osh kosh overalls, identical to a pair I had just gotten the year before for $28. Luckily they were in larger sizes so I found 7 more items and got a steal on those overalls. But I wasn't looking for overalls if you see my point. I also have to say I have very little luck at the goodwill store, since the good stuff seems to be put on their auction site. I shop the site and go to the salvation army and local church thrift in person. I must warn the site is addictive since you find all kinds of things you didn't even think you wanted.

Until I came on 2peas, I had no idea vintage pyrex was collectible. I saw so many of the white with wheat patterns at yard sales. Of course, now I don't see them anywhere! I also like to sleep in on Saturdays. So, I usually don't find great deals. It's just something to do. It's kind of fun peeking into other people's lives. I rarely find anything great at thrift stores. They are not good in my area.
