Hi Topamax Users, I increased my dosage to 75 mg last night after being on it for months (I would say 4 or 5 months) and the therapeutic dosage is at least 100 mg. This morning I can't think properly. I am as smart as a box of hammers. Someone had to give me their website over the phone and I needed to type it into an email and I could not for the life of me follow her instructions. It wasn't a difficult address at all, either. I also managed to lose my computer this morning and couldn't for the life of me remember where I put it. I also did*not*know* how to look for it. Again, box of hammers kind of intelligence. Did anyone else get dumbed down because of this drug and even on a lowish kind of dose?
Sigh.

Why did you increase your dosage? Did your doctor tell you to do that?

Well, just from the description a "Box of Hammers" sounds smarter than a "box of rocks", so things could be worse. Did you take it on an empty tummy? And have you eaten today?

Hi! I was on 75 mg, but my dr cut my dosage back to 50 mg because I started having problems with word searches which was very frustrating. The word search problem has gotten better, but my headaches have increased and gotten worse.

My sister stopped taking Topomax because she felt the medicine made her feel "foggy brained" (her words)

When I first started on Topamax, I first noticed that I had trouble typing. Then the words
Both have eased up.
I don't really have trouble typing anymore. I'd say that went away. As far as finding words, sometimes I just need an extra half second, so it just seems like a pause in my speech. I can play it off. Most people do not know.
I think with time it got better.
Also I take my three pills stretched out during the day. I take one in morning, at lunch, and evening. Not sure you can do that but maybe it helps my symptoms?
If you do want to stay on it, give yourself some time, as hard as it may be. Things will even out.

Yep, that's why I stopped taking it.
Couldn't follow simple instructions, couldn't make sense of a simple sentence, couldn't follow a conversation...

I take 100mg/day, but I have to take 50mg at night and 50mg in the morning or I'm useless. It has cut down the number and severity of headaches for me. I still have the occasional brain fart and forget things but it's great to have the meds to blame it on!!

I'm ready to throw it out the window but I see the doc on Fri. I had my first migraine since being on it last night trying to recover this morning. It's definitely not as intense. And my shoulder and neck are MUCH better. I might have him knock it down a dose cause I definately see the mood swings and confusions and funny tastes as we talked about before in the previous thread. But yea it sorta makes ya feel like a basket case so which is worse and which do a ya wanna deal with the migrane or the side affects? I can have to weigh the options. That's what Dh and I were talking about. With Meds ya kinda have decide what ya can tolerate more. But ya most of the time I'm lucky I can carry on a conversation...

I had weird dreams about little green aliens and things but the sleep was amazing! The fog did clear up a while later and I can string together more than 3 words, but it was difficult. All is good now. Did I mention the sleep was good? Yeah, that. Just the brain fog made me feel like I had a gerbil's intelligence.

I was on it for about 8 months. I called it Dopeymax because I couldn't remember my words while on it. The doctor kept saying it would get better but for me, at least, it did not. Plus, it didn't help to headaches all that much. I was so happy to get off it.

I take 50 at night and 50 in the morning also. The side effects were short term for me and the benefits are so worth it.

What do you do about sleepiness in the AM? I was a zombie in the AM. How do you take 50 mg in the AM?
