I was thinking of getting one, as I have a conversation set but no table to hold the upright kind. I can't use the four-post shade screens so I'm thinking of getting one of those off-set (cantilevered?) umbrellas. Wondering if they will really stay upright?

I have had one for several years and haven't had an issue. We can crank ours down every night though.

We have one but never use it. We didn't even bring out our patio furniture last summer as no one likes to sit outside but DS. I am not sure what we will do this summer. It gets pretty hot in our back yard. LOL Well "hot" is questionable but you know it is kind of warm in the back and none of us are really outdoorsy people.

I got one recently, it was a Black Friday special from Amazon. It was way bigger than we thought it would be for the price (and that's a good thing). We recently painted our deck, and got rid of a lot of our old patio furniture. (Well sort of, it's been kind of piled up in the yard, waiting for this weekend's yard sale. haha!)
We relocated Dh's grill to the other side, in the sun. We're using it as a cover for when he cooks, and it works great. I think it was a really good deal.

We have had one for a couple of years and it works great. We haven't even filled the base with the correct amount of weight either. I think we just threw a bag of sand in there, it hasn't fallen over once. We do fold it up when we don't use it and bought a cover for the winter months to keep the umbrella material in good shape.

My sister's always seems to be tipping over. I think her base is the just metal with no way to add weight unless you put a bag of sand, etc. over it. I did see a "wedge" weight at ACE hardware this weekend and need to tell her about it.

We bought a big one a couple of years ago to use by our lounge chairs. It's great when we want to be out of the sun but still by the pool. I'm not sure what DH put in the base, probably sand I guess, and it's never tipped. We do close it every night and put a winter cover on. I have a hard time getting it fully extended up all the way, so DH will usually open it in the morning for me if we're going to be using the pool.
Definitely keep an eye on it when it's windy out though; we usually just close it up then.

Every spring I look at the one Sam's carries and want to buy one but they are SO dang expensive! We've had one of those pop up tent things on the back patio, but this year's bad weather damaged it beyond repair. I ran across one at Big Lot's recently for a fraction of the cost and it looks identical! Thinking we are going to try to get that before DS's graduation party in May so we can offer a little bit of shade to our guests.

We have one with a grid around the footplate designed to hold 4 paving blocks. We bought it for our roof garden many years ago and had no hassles with it tipping in that location. Our current garden has great trees for shade so it has been installed on our office balcony, one floor up. It doesn't tip although I will admit to wondering if the office lot have "shut it" if a storm comes up.

Make sure you fill the base with sand or water (I think we used water so we could empty it out when we took it in for the winter), and close it when it gets windy. Ours only went over one time, but that was with record winds.

We had one for years out by the pool and never had any issues with it. The base was filled with sand and it never tipped over. After several Texas summers, it was finally done and we need to buy a new one. I would buy that kind again in a heartbeat as long as it has a base that can be weighted down.

We have one and love it! Bought it from Costco in 09. It's held up really well. It's square in shape and hangs over our patio bar.

I have one and love it. I always close it at night. It got left on the deck over the winter and even with the strong winds we get here it held up very well. Expensive but worth it.

I'm another fan . We were gifted ours when friends moved out of the country and didn't want to take it. I'd been debating getting between the offset umbrella or some sort of patio canopy and am so glad we ended up with the umbrella. I don't close ours up every night but definitely do if it is really windy out.

I don't know if Menard's, a home/hardware store type place, is nationwide, but they have decent ones at pretty reasonable prices; that's where we bought ours.
