So I've gotten myself into a pickle with the number of journaling card type things I have...some actually have space for writing, some are just decorative elements to tuck in here and there. I seem to have a problem with buying them - I have a stupid amount of the little devils and now I've overwhelmed myself. I need some ideas on how yall ( Yup, I'm from Texas, Yall!) organize yours..... I have some shallow, lidded storage boxes from wallyworld that I store my scraps in - one box for yellow/orange/red, a box for green/aqua/blue, a box for neutrals, and a box for multicolored and pinks. In those boxes, I have a smaller plastic tray that I keep those little journaling card things in, sorted by the same color schemes. That way if I'm looking for a little something blue to add to a page, I have scraps and cards together to check out. I know I'm overthinking this and I just need to do what works for me...but I guess this doesn't seem to be helping me as much as I thought it would. I wish I would spend as much time actually scrapping as I do organizing! I know that means I have too much stash. But I'm working on that, one page at a time! while I'm still on the "how do I organize whine-fest", here's another question for you....most of my stuff isn't separated by collection or manufacturer...that's not how I think. I go by "hey, I need some stickers!" not, "oh, that EP summer sunshine collection sticker sheet is just the thing!" but, there are a few collections that I fell in love with so I DO have all the papers and embellishments together. Should I just go ahead and bust them up? I'm scared I'll regret it, but then again, my thinking is, if I'm going through my blue paper and pull out XX brand, and then go through my stickers and see the same brand that matches the paper, of COURSE I'll notice it matches and grab it, right? And if it's all spread out by category, I will be more likely to notice what OTHER collections will go with each element. Make sense? But what a pain in the butt if I end up hating it. what's yall's experience with breaking up collections? Did it work for you? Cindy in Texas

Are you talking like project life type cards (3x4 and 4x6)? If so I separate them first by size and orientation (vertical or horizontal), then sub divide: Pure journaling card, Patterned type of card, Sentiment type of cards. Stamps that are for journaling cards in this size go in here as well. But I need to find a better sorting/holding box for them.
Journaling Stickers and odd shaped journaling cards I currently have in a large baggie that I go through when I need a smaller spot. I'd like to add them to the PL type card box when I find a better container.
I organize by type of embellishment as well. I never think "oh, I need XYZ manufacturer line" or "Oh, I need a green thing here". I think, "I need a flair or circle". I don't break up collections until it's been years of no use. Typically, if I've bought the whole collection, I will use it before that happens. But the few that did get sorted, I just mixed and matched my stuff like normal and didn't even think about it. Maybe try it with one collection and see if you like it before doing all of the collections that way.

I use photo storage boxes to store journaling cards. I mostly have BH core kits. I put the 4x6 cards in front and the 3x4 cards behind. I keep them by kit because it's easy enough to flip through and pull out a color or whatever type of card I'm looking for. About 5 full core kits fit in one box. Lots less room than keeping them in the original packaging. There's about 2-3 inches space left on one side of the box where I put related stickers, date stamps, or a pen.

lisa, I like the idea of trying it with one collection, I'll try that! DUH! I don't have any official project life cards, at least that I know of. I have stuff like the "capture" set from BG, snippets, and 12x12 sheets that I have cut apart. most of them are a regular 3x4ish size, but several are odd shaped, as well. labels, tabs, index card shape, etc. I like the idea of just putting them all in a photo box....I can just go through them all at once and not worry about color or theme or blah blah blah...who would have thought that just dumping them all in one box might be the organizational answer! LOL!!

I organize by size and I kept them in boxes that will fit that size perfectly and that I can take in and out of my cupboard easily.

For the Journaling cards I keep some in the BH PL core kit containers, but I store them vertically so I can flip through them. For my PL kit club items, I put them in actual page pocket protectors in a 6x8 album. I keep the matching stamps and embellishments from the kits in a larger page protector and use the BH tabbed dividers to keep them in order. I like having my kits all together and being able to flip through my album to find them easily.
Disclaimer: This is my current way. I've changed it oh, a hundred times in the last 2 years. But it's working for me now so I go with it.

I don't have that many PL cards and keep them in a narrow box on my table - sorted by size. Then I just flip through them and look for what will fit. I have quite a few embellishments pinned up on my Clip it Up so I can see them and might split up a collection to do that. Otherwise a collection would be together in a clear box. I do organise my card stock by colour - 12 x 12 in clear boxes and letter size for card making in magazine holders.

If I buy the kit or a lot of a collection I keep it together until I have used the majority of it. There's a couple of different ways I store them. If it's a theme that I scrap often I have 12x12 boxes that I keep all the supplies together. I also keep a CH paper holder on my desk that I put new paper in. I will throw everything into a plastic envelope and keep it all together in the holder. After I use up most of the collection I match the leftovers up with other pp.
Not much help on journaling cards. I have all mine thrown into a jar together.

I sort my embellishments by type so I store those PL type cards in two places. The ones that I think I will most likely use for journaling get thrown in the drawer with all the other journaling cards/spots/labels/etc. The ones that have images or sentiments or that I think I will most likely use for layering get thrown in my sticker/die cut drawer. So far the system is working for me.
I don't buy collections but if I did I think I would firstly decide if I'm going to scrap using just the collection pack (knowing that I'd probably grab the odd embellishment from my stash to finish a page). If I would, then I'd leave the collection whole until I've used most of it, then I'd break up the rest and store it with the rest of my stash.
If you love the collection but think you'll most likely make pages that include a whole range of stuff outside the collection I would break it up now.

I am not into PL. I'm a collection junkie. I am picky with my collections, have to love the paper but when I do…watch out wallet…I will buy the whole enchilada!! I put them in large ziplock bags (from Dollar Tree) and they are stored standing up in my vintage suitcase for just the right project. They have a nice home. Sadly, I loved them too much 'cause it seems they are multiplying. But that's another post for another day!

I am terrible with my collection of PL cards (well, all sorts of brands of cards). I am working on sorting them into categories based on 4x6 and 3x5, but I have a long way to go, and I'm pretty sure I need a bigger container! I broke my sets up (I don't scrap by brand/collection) into what makes sense for me--grids, lined, journaling prompts, etc. I am sure I will end up breaking them down into smaller categories, but I wanted to at least get started. The only things I haven't sorted yet are my big sets of Project Life kits, but I'm pretty sure I'll only sort a few into my collection and not putting the WHOLE KIT in at once, just as I go along and if I need more. I like a mixed up variety and not the same card everytime I reach for one.

I like the idea of splitting them up in different places. Thanks. JustCindy, I don't have any official project life cards either. Mine are print and cuts or 12x12 cut aparts or from various collections embellishment packs.
