Our house is almost 12 years old and I am sure our hot water heater's days are probably numbered. We are starting to consider a tankless much system but don't know much about them. Do you like yours?

Love our Takagi.
Really love the additional space in our laundry room now that the old tank is gone,

We do. Not sure if this is common but it takes a long time for us to get hot water. If I were to do it again I would make sure to get the recirculation pump (?) option.

We've had a Rinnai since 2009 - love that we never run out of hot water.

With a family of 6, I'm not sure we would survive without ours. We have had ours for a few years now and it is probably the best money we have spent on what (for us) is a luxury.

We don't have a tankless water heater, but we do have the recirculator which helps us save a lot on our water bill. Plus I like having the tank for when we have a major earthquake we'll have 40 gallons of water (as long as our house doesn't fall off the wall). I know lots of people that have the tankless and they love it a lot.

My neighbor has one and loves it, but was really upset when the power company ran into problems while working on our lines. We didn't have electricity for about 18 hours, so she had to boil for the day. She is the kind of mom who demands a daily shower for her kids, so she was doing a lot of boiling.

My parents like theirs. But the plumber that installed for them didn't like his. He said he had several teen age daughters and some days the only way they knew it was time to get out of a hot shower was when the hot water was gone which never happened with the tankless. They were really running his water and electric bills up.

I know someone who is finding it almost impossible to find someone that will work on theirs. Found lots that said they will install them but won't work on them.

We have the Bosch. Love it because I don't have a tank, but when it needs to be cleaned we get crazy hot water then ice cold.
Ours is propane. We use propane for the stove and water. It took two years to empty the tank. Now that we are living in new house we will use more but. Huge savings over having a tank of water just sitting there

What is the price point for one of these?

Nicole, I am just starting to look, so I don't know the answer to price yet. Of course there would be installation as well.

We do. It takes about 30 seconds for the water to heat up once it is on. I love it.....I never have to worry about scheduling laundry after everyone has bathed/ showered anymore!

What is the price point for one of these? I paid wholesale $1,800 for the top of the line Rinnai unit and then install was $500 including running a bit of new larger gas pipe. For what I got, I paid rock bottom for it, but I had "connections". This was maybe in 2010 or 2011 so I don't know if price points have come down at all.

Can you have a tankless system if you have a total electric house? Gas is not an option in my neighborhood.

My brother loves his and recommends them to his customers. But he is a plumber so he can fix it if anything happens with it. I know he raves about his, though.

Out plumber talked us out of it because we, like jediannie, live in earthquake country and don't want to be without water. We have two tank heaters strapped to a wall. My mother has a tankless heater. The hot water takes forever to get upstairs in her house. I believe she is personally responsible for California's current drought.

We found ours for 875. But that was a pricing mistake. We found one for husband's brother for 200. It was a return.

We have a Rinnai R75LSI with a household of two adults and two teenage girls. Our house layout makes for very short hot water runs so we don't need a recirc pump and my DH is a plumber so maintenance is on the house. Average price is for an install is $3,000 depending on venting. I battled a teenager in the morning with epic long showers and no hot water in the past so I would rather pay a slightly bigger gas bill (and gas is cheaper than hydro where I live) than fight about morning showers. It makes for peaceful mornings and I like those

We have had this type of water heater for 30plus years and would never go back to a storage tank. Love that you never run out of hot water!

I went over to the tankless system just over a year ago. Not only now do I have instant hot water whenever we want it, it's saved me almost the cost of the boiler in 16 months and the water pressure has improved as well. I wouldn't go back to a tank now ( couldn't as I have already used up the space where the tank used to be )

We have two and love them. We have a long, ranch style house. Laundry and kitchen are at one end and bathrooms at on the other. Love that we can take back-to-back showers and not run out.
We are all electric and had to wait for them to come out with electric ones. Love them

Our tankless heater is on the first floor and our bedrooms with bathrooms are on the third floor. Hot water doesn't take very long at all to get up there. It's actually quicker than the old tank heater. We love ours!

I was at my sister's house on Easter and was washing the dishes. I am not exaggerating when I say it took 10 minutes to get hot water in her kitchen. She said that is the norm. She is aggravated by it, but her dh insisted they get one. He is in the heating/air business, so I'm sure they got a top of the line one. No way would I get one. They are on a well, so maybe that makes a difference?

Some installers may automatically include the recirculating pump (or what ever it is).

We didn't do it because it had to be so close to a drain and had to be mounted on an outside wall. We went with 2 water heaters. One feeds the other one. We have 6 in the house and have never run out of hot water.
