I don't like taking pills in general and some I meds I have to take but want to cut out what I don't really need. I was thinking of cutting out the multivitamin and the fish oil. That would be three less things per day. I get queasy when I take too much stuff at one time. Ugh. Thoughts?

I just started taking a multivitamin at my doctor's recommendation. I don't know how much it will help, but I don't eat right, and I figure that at the very least, it can't hurt.

I don't like taking pills either, so I asked my doctor specifically about a multivitamin and he said it really is not necessary. The fish oil you might want to continue if you lean towards higher cholesterol though.

Definitely helps us stay healthier and not get sick as much. We stopped for a bit earlier this year, and that was a big mistake. My hubby and my girls do not like to swallow things either so they have switched to these:
*Centrum Flavorburst Chews *One a Day Vitacraves
They love both of these and they seem to work great.

For the fish oil, I tried a gummy version thinking fish flaovered "candy" miught not be a good thing. I was pleasantly surprised as they were quite tasty. Tasty to the point that I had to stop myself a couple of times from taking a couple more! They didn't bother my stomach at all so this might be a solution for that supplement. Take a couple for dessert after a meal!

This may be the ticket! I think I could try a chewable and if it isn't icky then that may work! I might just nix the fish oil, I don't have a cholesterol problem.

Now the Centrum chewables are more like candy, and the One a Day are more like gummies. I buy both because everyone likes something different around here. LOL!

I'm always in two minds about multi-vits. Half the research seems to say they're a good idea, the other half seems to suggest either that they just go through you without doing much or that synthetic ones are a waste of money. I just don't know. Maybe it comes down to how good your diet is generally.

I just don't know. Maybe it comes down to how good your diet is generally. I feel exactly the same way - I kind of read between the lines and assume that using a multi-vitamin as a replacement for the real thing is just not going to do what you need it to, but as a supplement to a diet that at least includes some of what we 'should' eat (even if we don't eat enough) it probably helps. There are also (over here at least) multi-vitamins that you can add to water and they effervesce to create a drink. I like the blackcurrant ones if I use them (which isn't often, but I have) and that could be another option for those who don't like taking tablets.

I've taken a multivitamin plus iron for years. My doctor recommends it, not as a replacement for eating healthfully, but as a supplement to it.

Our nutritionist highly recommends Standard Process Catalyn which is what I take but the family can't swallow those even though they are small (not coated). They are a great supplement for me, and I won't make the wrong choice and stop those ever again! Eeeek!

I don't know about the fish oil, but the multi vitamin definitely helps and is worth it to me. I don't usually take them everyday, (as I sometimes forget) but about 5 or 6 days out of 7.
So long as I am taking it, I find that I have no food cravings as in I want something, but can;t quite figure out what I want. On those kind of days, I eat way more than I should a bite of this, a bite of that, trying to satisfy my body wanting something and me not really knowing what.
It also seems to help curb my junk food cravings. In that I don't "need" to eat those salty chips or that sweet candy etc. I still may, cause it's my bad habit, but it's not a "I gotta have something salty like yesterday". LOL!

I took a multivitamin everyday for years then I stopped, I never noticed a blind bit of difference in my health.

I was a vitamin doubter for years and finally caved to DH begging me to take a multivitamin. I ordered the GNC multi for women and was completely surprised by the difference I feel when I (remember) to take them. I drag less in the morning and feel a bit more energetic during the day, which is really saying something since my auto-immune disorder really nails me to the wall most of the time.
GNC offers really great online deals for vitamins and you can sign up for a free Shoprunner trial for free shipping. I'd give it a shot if you don't want to invest a ton of money right off the bat.

Do you take your necessary meds only in the morning? If so, you could take your fish oil and multi vitamin before bed. I switched to that 6 months or so ago and it's worked great for me. I don't take other medicine, but when I would take my gummy vitamins first thing in morning, it would set off sugar cravings.

IMHO, no, it doesn't. And, based on recent research, you can probably drop the fish oil, as well.

According to my doctor, supplements aren't necessary if you have a healthy and balanced diet, and since I hate pills I'm going to follow his advice.

I may be in the minority and sound a little bias since the company I am a distributor for has a nutritional line. I was skeptical at first but after hearing the founder's background, research and information, I have a new view on it. But getting the essential vitamins and minerals that we need daily is vital and does more than you think. Some are better than others.

Night ones are a repeat of some of the morning ones, the metformin and fish oil. I'm so tired of taking meds. I just want to get rid of as many as I can without compromising my health.

I don't take a multivitamin-- every time I've tried, it makes me nauseous. One of my doctors said that the iron is usually the culprit, and I'm not sure there are any multis that do NOT have iron in them.
If you haven't already, you might ask your doctor if there is a certain nutrient or something s/he thinks you should have. It doesn't necessarily have to be a multivitamin. For instance, my doctor didn't seem very concerned about my calcium or iron or anything else, but she does recommend that all her female patients take Vitamin D because it plays a role in so many systems in our bodies.

I should probably try out some gummies or something now. The last vitamins I tried were probably centrums or one-a-days, and they were HUGE. It's literally been years since my last attempt. And actually, what I should PROBABLY do is get CVS or Walgreens store brand-- whoever has a guarantee that I will like it or I can bring it back.

None of us take them at my house. I tried them a couple of different times and felt seriously out of whack both times. As I was typing this, pop up ads on vitamins kept showing up.

Just an FYI to those who take a calcium supplement. Your body can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time. So if you're supposed to take more than that, buy lower doses of calcium and take 500 in the morning and 500 at night. If you take a 1000mg dose for example, you're not getting it all. Also, if you're taking calcium alone, make sure to take vitamin D as well since it helps your body better absorb the calcium. Calcium, vitamin D and weight bearing exercise are the 3 main "pillars" of bone health. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you follow a balanced. healthy diet you should get all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs and saving you a lot of money in the process. Cynical as to the benefits of vitamin pills?........yes, there is plenty of research out there that confirms this.

I have tried the gummy ones and they are so like sweets it would be easy to just keep on eating them!
