For those who have been lucky enough to find one that is in working order and found one for a reasonable fee have you had to replace the ink ribbon on it? if so are you able to do so at business depot? I'm on the look out for one

I found mine for $30 at an antique store and got the ribbon at amazon for maybe $8. The ribbon that was in it still works (and might be new) so I haven't actually changed it yet. The ribbons are supposed to be pretty universal...they didn't have different ribbons for every model like they do for things these days

I found a plug in type writer last night. I didn't actually plug it in and try it. I didn't buy it either. I have a 30% off coupon too so it would be $13 .. I'm looking for a non plug in kind. It was an old plug in kind. like I was shocked it had a plug. half the fun is the search right

I haven't had to replace the ribbon yet even though it's really old. since the fabric ribbon is still in good condition, I think I'm just going to re-ink it. there are lots of videos on Youtube that show you how and since I have reinker liquid already, I think I will give it a try before buying a new one.

As indicated in this thread, I have admired layouts using a script typewriter for journaling. Since I don't have the desire or patience to hunt for or maintain a vintage typewriter, I opted instead to download a free font & like the way it looks on my pages! Best wishes with your search (& hope you can find an awesome free font online to use in the meantime)...

I am lucky enough to live in the Phoenix, AZ area and there is still a typewriter store here-- lol! That's where I got my ribbon... and correction paper! but the guy who runs the place said they're pretty universal and you can get them from ebay. He told me if you have one with a metal spool for the ribbon it's worth more if you keep the metal spool... you can wind the new ribbon onto the metal spool if you want.

I was very lucky as my sweet husband bought me a new Brother typewriter for Christmas this past year! The ribbons are pretty universal. I absolutely love mine. You will too if you decide to get one!!

I have my Mum's old typewriter and bought a replacement ribbon from ebay. I emailed the seller prior to purchase to make sure I had the right ribbon.
