...eat microwave popcorn! For the first time, I made popcorn popped over the stove in coconut oil. So good! To negate all healthy properties of this snack, I then put this stuff on it: Buttery toppingAdding that, with salt, made it taste exactly like movie theater popcorn. I heard you can use this stuff in place of salt for a more genuine movie theater experience, but I figured the topping added enough chemicals as it was. I wouldn't have ordered all this stuff if we weren't popcorn fanatics or Prime members, but to us it was worth it! Edit: just noticed there's a recipe board. Sorry if that's a more appropriate place.

We don't do ours on the stove, but we do have a popcorn popper. The ONLY time we microwave it now is if we are on vacation.

I stopped microwave when I found out about the lung-coating illnesses the popcorn factory workers started getting. We have a hot air popper, but there was something different about popping on the stove that made it taste more like movie theater popcorn. I popped it with my heavy cast iron dutch oven, though, and my arms are aching, so I think I will probably switch to air popping next time!

Please tell me what brand popcorn you buy! Last time I got some, the kernels popped so small and hard it was like eating nearly unpopped kernels!

My air popper was the best purchase I have made in the past year. White popcorn with olive oil spray, salt and a sprinkle of grated cheese. Mmmmmm.

My husband bought a brand called Kernel Season's. Never heard of it until he brought it home. I ordered some from Amazon which hasn't gotten here yet called Snappy. I am crossing my fingers that it'll be good, but it got really good ratings, so I'm fairly confident it will work out.

Interesting, farmdpea. Can you add "wet" seasonings (like coconut oil or butter) while it is popping?

This is what I use in the microwave with popcorn and coconut oil when making it just for myself. Nordic ware micro popper
works great and I like it better than the presto cause you don't need the discs.

Interesting, farmdpea. Can you add "wet" seasonings (like coconut oil or butter) while it is popping? You can, but there is a paper liner at the bottom. It lasts quite a while when popping dry, but will only last for a few times when oil is used. I sometimes use coconut oil when popping, but usually I add a spray oil to the popped kernels. It's meant for that purpose, but I can't remember the brand name.

We eat microwave popcorn if we're in a hurry and we pop the old fashion way when we're not. I like both.

So there's no good popcorn brand sold at a regular grocery store?

If we ever finish off the Cub Scout microwave popcorn I will have to try the stovetop method. We still have more than three big boxes of the stuff and we rarely eat it.

Surely other peas remember those long threads about the many intimate uses for coconut oil.

Right now I'm using a white popcorn from the health food store (to which I add a bit of melted butter and salt) but I really like Vic's popcorn and want to find something similar to that.

I get the Snappy white popcorn off of Amazon, way cheaper than Orville and pops so much better. I also use their coconut oil and then flavacol for seasoning.

I don't care for Orville's either, seems it always leaves lots of unpopped ones in the hot air popper.
I find Kernel's pops really well and I have bought it at Walmart on occasion, but it seems to be out of stock a lot. Somehow I can't bring myself to go to the mall just to buy popcorn from the Kernel's kiosk.

But... but... but... then how will I pollute my workplace with the smell of burned chemicals if I give up microwave popcorn that I cook in the community oven for 27 minutes? Nothing hangs around like the smell of burned microwave popcorn.
