Hi, Peas! I am thankful the wealth of information has been brought to this place.
Years ago, I shopped an Estate Sale and bought a really sweet scrapbook that a Cub Scout Leader put together for one of her Cubs...it has lots of photos and journaling from the early 1950's...including a letter to the Scout from the Leader.
I am now trying to reduce the amount of non-precious items I store and since I have no idea who the Scout was...it needs a new home. I contacted someone I know who works for the BSA Headquarters here in Dallas and she said that they receive tons of those kinds of items and it would just be stuck in a warehouse and I should find someone who would appreciate it.
What should I do with the Scrapbook? I wish my son had photos like this from when he was a Scout...
I suppose I could put it on ebay....for the value of the logo on the cover of the scrapbook. But that would not be the point of saving it.
I was sad to think that the "little Cub Scout" must have passed away and no family members wanted this scrapbook.

ummm, good one.... maybe there is some local Cub Scout group you could contact? You need the perfect scenario.. a cub scout leader that likes to scrapbook old stuff!

Do you have a local historical society or something of that sort that would be interested in it? Or Maybe the Scouts themselves would be interested...little piece of their history.

No, I tried the Scouts Headquarters which is local...and was told that they don't display items like this, it would sit in a warehouse.
It's really a "pea worthy" scrapbook....
There is a FB group I am a member of from where we grew up...he grew up in the same area. Maybe I'll post the name and such there...maybe someone will remember him or have been part of the troop and want the pics..

The FB sounds great, is his Pack still active? Ours is 35 years old, but there are older ones out there. Maybe you could donate it to the church or school where they met?
What a fun find, things like it cause me to wonder why it wasn't kept

Definitely check with your local council - some of them have scout stores and have oodles of stuff on display. Our Boy Scout troop decided they wanted to do a scrapbook after seeing the ones I did for our son, so I started it, handed it off to the librarian scout and as far as I know it's sitting in a shed somewhere!

LadyTrisha, it would be nice if it was in the store so more public could see it!
Hope your scrapbook comes out of hiding, that was a sweet thing to do.

check with the local council - specifically ask for a historian/librarian when you call.
See if there is a still a troop/pack meeting at that location and/or with that number - they may be delighted to re-gain a piece of their history.
If there is a local history museum, they may be interested. Same with a local family history society.
At a last resort, if you do end up selling it on Ebay - perhaps scan it first and upload to a free site (like Flickr or Photobucket) and tag it with terms like the town, name of the Cub Scout, Pack number, etc... so it'll be searchable online

Have you tried to find the scout that it belonged to or his family? Maybe if you post the name and other identifying information here, the genealogy peas can help track him down.
I would try to find the scout before I would try to sell the scrapbook on ebay.

Can you contact the troop or pack it was from? They all have historians that may be interested. I know our pack and troop would love something like that.

I have a similar situation, somebody gave me some old memorabilia (photo books, retirement awards, and etc) from my second cousin and her husband (who was from the Philippines) whom I barely knew. I have went through it and weeded out some stuff but I really really hate to throw away the other stuff. I know they had a son that was killed in a auto accident but little else, I have looked up names on the internet, posted on facebook, asked around but nothing. So my next step is to hopefully give it to the genealogical society and hope someday someone will coming looking for the items.

Good suggestions, Ladies. I will definitely find an appropriate home for the scrapbook.

Your facebook idea seemed logical. You could post one of the pictures and see if anyone local recognized it. I am always happily surprised when I see people who have been "found" using facebook shares.
