Has anyone updated a Gypsy lately, & lived to tell?

So, I'm dating myself by at least a decade, just by asking this question. 
But even if it makes me a certified fossil, I LOVE my Gypsy and what I can create with it, and don't know how I'd ever use my Cricut E without it. With all the $ invested in carts, and the convenience of my current workspace set up combined with the Gypsy, I have no interest in joining the 21st Century. LOL (Plus, I just bought a Workbox last year, no more major investments on the horizon for a while!)
However, I bought a great cart-the chalkboard font one, on sale. And, of course, it's new since I last updated the Gypsy, so in order to link it, I have to update it again. I remember some horror stories about Gypsies never working again after an update (and this was a while ago as it is), and heaven knows there's No Customer Service for Old Gypsies.
So, I'm skeert. Hold my hand and tell me it will be okay.
Or, tell me to return the chalkboard font, grab the Gypsy and run away from the computer like a madwoman.
