Oldest DD (16 years old and in 10th grade) has really come a long way with her artistic talent. Since moving to one of the top public schools in the district and working under the direction of a very talented art teacher, she has really grown. All that hard work has paid off. She had two pieces that moved to the state competition in Dallas this past weekend, the 2015 TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), and both were awarded gold seals. Those works of art will now travel the state on exhibition. I'm so impressed with the hard work she has put in this year.

Excellent! I'm sure you're all so excited! Her pieces look awesome!
I was in her position when I was in high school, and was excited, stunned and proud all at the same time. It's a great moment, one she'll remember, that's for sure!
I wish I could see her work closer up! You don't have more pics do you?

That is some amazing work! We just went to our local high school art show this past sunday and its so refreshing to see some real talent in kids nowadays that doesn't include graphic arts/ computer generated work. I love the kitty in the window (well I love both, but have a soft spot for cats!)

It's a great moment, one she'll remember, that's for sure! I wish I could see her work closer up! You don't have more pics do you? I wish I had better pics! LOL I have a bunch more that are crappy. She was in Dallas with her art teacher and mates and I wasn't there, so I had to rely on her for pics. When the pieces finally make their way back to us, I will take better pictures. The cat belongs to my brother, as does the original photo of said cat that she based her piece on. That piece was created using a technique called torn paper... the whole piece is made up of tiny pieces of colored paper (magazines) that she punched out, tore, etc. and then glued on. The commuter train is based on a photo her father took in downtown Houston (Metro rail) and was created using pointillism... thousands of tiny dots of pastel. Just talking about how she created these makes me tired, as did watching her actually do the pieces. I know she is very happy to have won given all the hard work she did.
