My father-in-law has requested that I make a slideshow for their 50th anniversary party in June. I made one for their 40th anniversary as a surprise, and he LOVED it, so he wants one that includes the last 10 years. But I used a PC last time, and now I only have a Mac, so I no longer have the software that reads the old file. So I need to start over. I haven't made a slideshow in 10 years, lol, so I have no idea where to start.
I know I can google, but I want to know if there is a particular slideshow software for Mac that is recommended. I'm sure there are a lot more options than there were 10 years ago. I want to add music of course, and burn it to a DVD so it can be played on a continuous loop at the party. Unless there's a better way.
Thanks for any pointers and tips you can offer.

You can do it through iPhoto and burn to a dvd. I had to google how to burn it but I've done it before.

I use iPhoto to create my slideshows, but the shows aren't transferable to another computer. I did one a few weeks ago, and showed it on my MacBook pro. Lots of options for formats, timing, music, etc. but I would like to hear others' recommendations for other programs that will then allow the show to be hosted on any device.

I don't know about music as I was making a slideshow for a funeral home but everything else stayed intact.
It's not intuitive AT ALL and took me several tries and wasted DVD's to get it to work but it can be done. Definitely google it and give it a try.

I don't know why I didn't even think to use iPhoto. I guess because I've never really liked that program, lol. But I'll give it a try. Thanks!

You can use Keynote which should have come already loaded on your Mac. It's Mac's version of PowerPoint. I've used it several times and everything I did converted to PowerPoint just fine. I can also run PowerPoints on my Mac with no trouble.
I am computer illiterate and had no problems doing my presentations.

I routinely use iMovie. Just drop in the stills, add titles and music then in the drop down menu click on share. Decide what size, small, medium or large etc then render. To burn go to iDVD, look for your movie under media, drag it over and burn. There are tons of videos on YouTube to help you along.

Thanks! I didn't think of imovie because I thought it was just for videos.
