I'm from Baltimore so am hearing all that's going on with this story. Last night on the news, it was mentioned that the states attorney (who is a 35 year old woman) that is going to be handling this case is married to the council for the area where the protesting is going on. Also, she (states attorney) has police "blood" running through her family. Both of her parents, grandfather and I believe uncles were police. I find this very interesting. What do you think?

The deck is already well-stacked against Mr. Gray's family receiving justice, even it it's determined that the police were 100% at fault. I don't particularly like this development but it's not surprising.

Unless she is able to be completely unbiased and separate her job from her family ties then I don't think it's going to end well for the Gray family.

I don't know what the facts are in the case to say either way. I know some pieces of the reporting but not the full findings.

IMO, she should not be making decisions regarding this case. There are already enough issures surrounding this case, and both sides need to be assured of an unbiased set of eyes examining the evidence.

I think Gray's family will get a good lawyer representing them and will get a $million payout like Trayvon's parents. I think the fact that he wasn't buckled into the police van is the smoking gun.

Breaking news: Freddie Gray case: there was no probable cause in arresting Freddie Gray by BPD.

Did the Martin family get a large settlement? I don't remember seeing this anywhere, but I could easily have missed it.

I found one source that claimed the martin family settled for around 1 million with the home owners association. While i think it would be great if the gray family was able to win a civil suit, it in no way would represent justice or make up for the loss of their family member.

I was just looking if this was posted yet, since so many peas said they were awaiting the findings. Horrific.

Martin's parents were offered $1 million each from the homeowners association and countered that offer, so what they got we don't know but it's more than $1 million each. Plus his mother, who didn't raise him and wasn't part of his life, got a paid 6 month vacation from her job, founded a foundation, got magazine spreads, and various other opportunities.

Can you imagine how excited she is that her son was killed by a psychopath that was not punished so she could get 6 months paid vacation and some magazine spreads? I would gladly hand over my child, my parent, or anyone that I love to be murdered on the street if I could get those things.
You suck.

I'm sure they'll file, the Gray's family was living off a lawsuit from a lead check, he grew up in a house that had peeling lead paint. His lead poisoning could have lead to weakness in his bones. Also he was born to a heroin addict.

I think it's a good thing that a seperate entity, the Department of Justice, is also investigating this case. What will be really interesting is if they come up with the same conclusions.

I think that the vast majority of hard working, decent law enforcement officers want a thorough investigation and the prosecution of officers who abuse their power. I whole heartedly reject the assumption that if one's family is affiliated with law enforcement you are incapable of examining the evidence of police brutality and determining if it's appropriate to pursue charges.

What the hell is wrong with you annabella? Is money your only currency? Do you not value love and family and understand that no amount of money can ever heal the pain from losing a loved one in such a horrible and needless way? Are you that shallow?

I was ready to hold opinion on her ability to be fair until her news conference. They just tried and convicted those officers on national tv. There is no way they will get a fair trial in a Baltimore now. Mr. Gray was arrested illegally and was given the death penalty because of those cops. I don't give a $hit about whether those cops get a "fair" trial in Baltimore. Whatever "fair" means.

There is no way they will get a fair trial in a Baltimore now. I just watched it in it's entirety as opposed to the initial clips on CNN. I'm actually not that worried about a fair trial process. History demonstrates that even with very volatile media coverage, juries tend to give officers the benefit of the doubt. I predict the driver may be convicted of something (we'll have to see if the evidence will support second degree depraved heart) but I think the unrestrained, extended drive where the grievous injuries are suspected of being sustained will lead to conviction of something. I have my doubts that they will be able to prove even manslaughter on the other officers - but we'll have to see the evidence.
