Seriously.
He won't give me any suggestions. He has too much of everything.
I was thinking of buying him a new quilt and pillows for our bed (he's the only one who uses the quilt and it's old and could be replaced and he's always complaining that I hog all the good pillows), but one of his friends said that wasn't manly enough.
So now I'm back to square one. He's sooooo hard to buy for. If he want something, he goes out and gets it.
I hate asking for suggestions, because you all don't know him. But he's into racing (dirt stock car racing, not asphalt or Nascar), he likes to occasionally golf but rarely has time to do so, and he likes to fish but it's usually him taking the girls for an hour or so here or there in the summer.

If he fishes, maybe a gift card for Cabela's?

One of the 'experience days'? Something he would really enjoy doing. ETA - Whether or not I was the only one using the quilt or pillows, I wouldn't want that as a birthday gift. If i felt I needed to replace it, I just would - and that's a female POV, let alone a male one!!

I usually just cook and bake for my husband. He likes his belly full of a good home cooked meal. He's not so hard to please. I also decorate the house the night before with balloons and banners so when he wakes up he feels special.

I have the same problem with my DH -- he buys the few things he wants for himself, and doesn't want/use/need anything else.
Lately my go-to gifts have been books. I spend quite a while hunting around on Amazon to find things I think he would like. He does like reading but never buys himself books, so this works well. I also find stuff he's never heard of or would look for himself, sometimes.
And for the past several years his birthday gift has been to go to a theme park for the day with our two older girls.

I was having the same issue. I ended up getting him a food processor (We've been talking about getting one), some clothes and cufflinks, and a football item from the pup.

I like the experiences idea. Dh and I have been doing that since dh also buys the gadgets that he wants.
I would buy some new pillows and quilt, but not for his birthday. You can get some amazing pillows inexpensively at Tuesday Morning, TJ Maxx/Homegoods.
Y'all could go out and shop for the pillows/quilt together. My dh likes to shop at those places and loved picking out his pillows, bedding and new towels. He loves searching the houseware section and finding cool jams, spices, gadgets for the kitchen.
Last year for dh's birthday, I bought him a golf class package with a local pro. Dh loved that I bought this for him and encouraged him to take the time off to play golf. For our anniversary, I bought him a ticket to the US Open at Pinehurst.
Dh didn't want to go alone to Pinehurst, but I knew how much he'd enjoy the experience. I would have felt horrible in the heat, and dh wouldn't have had any fun worrying about me. Dh still talks about his experience and how much fun he had.
Last fall we went to The Grove Park Inn in Asheville for a golf package. Dh and I *loved* being pampered. I also bought him a cool jacket embroidered with The Grove Park Inn Golf logo for an early Christmas present. DH loves it--it has removable zippered on sleeves so it goes long sleeve or short. It's black and looks really nice.
My dad did the Buddy Baker driving school for a week. He loved that once in a lifetime experience.
Dh and I also love trips that we do together. Those are the memories that we'll keep forever long after we forgot what present we got for a birthday.
I do love getting jewelry from dh for anniversaries and birthdays, etc. I have bought dh some cool watches.

A race car driving experience?
Season passes to his favorite dirt track?
A new, organized, freshly stocked with all the basics tackle box?
A gift certificate to his favorite live bait shop?
A nice cooler to take with them fishing? Use it like a gift bag and fill it up with his favorite beer and snacks.

He gets enough of that, LOL!
And he owns a shop at his local track, so he doesn't pay to get in... but those are great suggestions!

A variety pack of beers.
A man basket filled with his favorite snacks, grooming products, a couple big bottles of beer and other goodies.
A year subscription to Hulu Plus.

You can get a package to drive on the race track in Indianapolis. Even if he does it every day, it's still pretty cool. My SIL did that for my brother one year. How ow about an overnight stay at a hotel? A night away from the kids, a nice meal, and grown up time would be relaxing for my DH.

Dollar shave club? Maybe like a 6 month subscription? We love these guys, and both times I've had an issue, their CS is phenomenal!

A pocket knife. He probably has one as a fisherman but a cool pocket knife would be, well, cool. Big 5 has some great knives that wont break the bank.

Even when the lingerie and a private night is part of the celebration, I still like to give a present. Does your dh bbq? New tools, spices, a box of steaks, etc. Maybe a smoker? Does he like to cook? My dad took cooking lessons one time and loved it, that might be a gift idea. Are there any old t.v. shows he used to love that he might like on DVD? Maybe a DVD collection of movies from a favourite actor (John Wayne, Steven McQueen, someone more current). Is he nostalgic at all? Are they any old toys he used to love that he'd be tickled to have again (flea markets, ebay, etc. are good sources for these kinds of things). Beer fridge? Selection of craft beers? Gift certificate for beer or wine making? Professional photos of him racing, or posed with his car, etc.?

My DH is getting either a barbecue or a fire pit for Father's Day (his birthday is in January, I can't remember what I got him all those months ago). Man like open flames grrr.

I'd go ahead and buy the quilt and pillows - my husband would love it.
Also, how about a Life is Good t-shirt or sweatshirt as an add on gift? They have golfing and fishing ones (my husband has both). They are super soft and they hold up really well.
Fishing tackle and golf stuff is always wanted by my husband, says the woman whose husband is golfing right now and has a boat in her backyard.

How about making the arrangements for him to have a night out with his guy friends at his favorite guy restaurant. You make all the reservations. They come in to the restaurant, get seated and drinks are served. They don't even need to order. It's all been done. Meal same thing, dessert same thing. When it's all over and he comes home, the kids are at grandmas and you give him his 2nd gift. Sounds like a nice evening to me.

I have the same problem with my DSO, he is so hard to buy for and whenever I ask for suggestions he says he doesn't want anything. This year I was going to buy him lights and stuff for his new bike (his other bike got stolen). But then a couple of days before his birthday he went and ordered lights from eBay. I was so annoyed!! He ended up getting nothing.
Something that my DSO would like is a restaurant gift card. That way you can both enjoy the gift. And of course then you can follow up with some of the other raunchy suggestions!
