Chicago Bulls red. As per DS' instructions. Took the paint store owner's advice, and painted the grey from the other three walls as a base coat for the red. I just remember the time I painted basketball orange, and spent a week doing it (nobody told me back then you needed a tinted primer for dark colours like that). In I go. If I'm not around for a while, it isn't going well!

It's paint. It can always be repainted. Go for it!

Don't panic after the first coat. It may look awful.
Dh unexpectedly came home from lunch just after I finished the first coat of a deep, rich red in our kitchen. He was horrified -- wanted to take the afternoon off to "fixit." Truthfully, it did look like a crime scene.
I sent him back to work and by the time he got home the second coat was on and it looked awesome.

I HATE painting... makes my stomach hurt just knowing YOU are going through this. Me too! I'd rather do anything than paint! I finally started hiring it done and it's so much easier. Good luck, we'll need pictures when you're done.

It will be fine! Just be patient and willing to apply 2-3 coats to get the depth of color you want. We had a barn red accent wall in our kitchen in a previous house and I cursed it every minute we were painting ... until it was done. And then I loved it every day after that.

Well - coat number one doesn't look hideous - with the grey background, it actually looks half decent!
But since this is actually coat #2 on the wall (did the grey a few hours ago) I'll need to let this one dry a good hour before I attempt coat #2.
And since I'm a messy painter, I see tape & trim painting in my future tomorrow. May as well get it all done now while the room is all apart and a mess!

Make sure you look at it dry in daylight. I painted our dining room a deep red. Love that room and color!!

Red is a challenge! I will say you are probably looking at 3 coats to get it looking right. It will look great when you get it done though.

I painted a red wall in one of my son's rooms once. It did take three coats even with a tinted primer. The end result was perfect though.
The worst part of painting a wall red though is deciding years later that you want it to be a differenr color. It takes many coats to UN-do red, too.

I love painting. It is the easiest thing I do to change things up and make everything fresh. I painted my living room wall red. I had it red for several years and I loved it. Go for it. It's only paint and easily changed.
ETA: When I painted mine red I did two coats, no primer, over a yellow wall and it covered perfectly. Behr paint.

I wish I had known about colored lprimer before I painted my daighjter's bathroom a deep wine color. FIVE coats later I just quit, There are still some places that could use another coat.

Ditto! I painted 2 coats of beautiful red in our guest bath. It looked horrible. I went to Home Depot and they were amazing. They sold me tinted primer - in fuschia! They GAVE me a new brush for cutting in and a new gallon of paint. I primed, then two more coats for a total of 5. It could use touching up, but NO WAY. I am done. My dad says the room is 1/4" smaller now with all the paint.

Well, so far, so good! The second coat is done.
We will see how it looks in the morning when the sun moves back around that side of the house!
But I only bought a small thing of paint because it was one wall only, and I scraped that sucker dry to use up all the paint, and pretty much every last drop is gone.
But in the afternoon sunlight it looks pretty even. I'll wait for full dryness before I decide I'm done or not!
Now to go ice my shoulder....it was giving me grief today (probably not the best day to paint!)

It took 3 coats for the one wall I did in my laundry room (five years ago). I do most of the wall painting in every house we have owned. DH will help if it's above cabinets and I'm too short to reach. However, in the laundry room once I picked out the paint he told me I was "on my own" and wanted nothing to do with it. LOL
I'm almost finished with coat one of the gray paint for the kitchen. The kitchen and laundry kitchen are next to each other. I think I want to repaint the laundry room now. I am so not mentioning that to my DH. Ha.

DH is much braver than I am and when I was out of town he decided to paint the bottom half of our kitchen walls at our old house dark RED! It turned out looking great and I loved it after that. But it will take a couple coats to get the color to look right even with the tinted primer underneath. Have fun with it!

I still miss the cayenne pepper red kitchen that met up with yellow family room I painted back at our old house. I really loved it. Renting now, not sure if I'll ever be able to change the paint.

If you had a gray base and used good paint, I think you'll be fine with 2 coats. Painting a wall royal blue is what convinced me that cheap paint is a waste of money and not worth using. I had to do like 4-5 coats on that. Ugh.

I painted our downstairs powder room red and used the tinted primer. It is now covered in wallpaper which was done the same weekend as the red paint! I don't have wallpaper anywhere else in my house - I was desperate!

When I painted DS' bedroom red several years ago, it took 4 coats until it looked good. His contrasting walls were grey and it looked good when it was done. But I sure was swearing a lot every time I realized I had to do ANOTHER coat.

WHY?? Just a simple question.... Are you sure? LOL Because after 5 years of living with new build white, and a DS who has never had a proper bedding set (just odds and ends that never matched) he wanted a Chicago Bulls room. We got black & red plaid bedding, and I told him ONE red wall. And then a vinyl decal of a Michael Jordan silhouette will go on the red wall. So far, two coats seems to be doing it!

I so feel your pain. I just did a Chicago Blackhakws red wall in ODS's room last week. I ended up with three coats over the tinted primer. I thought two would do it, but after letting it dry for a day, I did a third since I still had paint and the tape up around the trim.
Are you still seeing red hours later? Hope your son enjoys his newly painted room!

Sounds like it will look great! I hope your DS enjoys his new room re-do!
My scrapbook/craft room/office has a red wall - used to be DS's room and he wanted the whole thing red. DH & I vetoed that and told him he could have 1 accent wall red so it's on the wall with the closet (smallest cubic footage of wall space). Still took 3 coats with the gray primer; we might have been able to get away with 2 coats but it's a room that gets a lot of light so the "thin spots" showed through.
I'm glad I liked the colors he picked when it was his room, because I have no desire to repaint it! At the time he was choosing, I didn't factor in that I might end up with this room as a scraproom. (He moved to DD's larger room when she left for college.)
