I have had nothing but positive experiences buying and selling from Craigslist. We live in a small town. When I sell, I have everything out in the driveway, ready to be loaded up. When I buy, I have found the seller has done the same.
Tonight a guy came to pick up a dresser. He was a little odd. Although my husband was not at home, my neighbors were outdoors. After he paid me, he asked if he could come in and use our bathroom. No. I thought it VERY odd that he would even ask. I know he passed a gas station less than one mile away, and would be passing it on the way back. That's weird, right?

that's weird, and I would've been alerted too. I buy/sell things on CL all.the.time and have never had a creepy experience yet. hopefully that doesn't mean I'm due to have one soon!

I've never had a bad experience. The most interesting buyer was the owner & son of a pawnshop just north of Hollywood. They were super nice. It was a glass display case and they texted to let us know the case made it in one piece. This in big, bad Los Angeles.

I have bought things on CL a bunch but normally meet in a public spot like Starbucks. I've also hired movers/handymen and it's always worked out. Some look like they may have partied hardy the night before, but it's never been a problem.

In other places I have lived it's been pretty normal. Although a lot of flakes who said they were coming to pick up free moving boxes and then never show. But here, I don't even dare sell on Craigslist.

We've never had anything really creepy happen with Craigslist buyers or sellers. We bought a little play kitchen from some people one time and they people made a big deal of telling us several times that they could take a debit card from us. I thought that was strange and there was no way I was going to give them a debit card after all the the times they mentioned it. We just had our bathroom ceiling re-sheetrocked and finished by a guy from Craigslist on Friday and everything turned out just fine.

I let DH handle all the Craigslist craziness. We haven't had any weirdos other than the occasional flaker that doesn't show up when they said they would, but otherwise did show up. We've bought two bed frames from different people, and a half sized hay wagon last fall to take DD and the neighborhood kids around to trick or treat from a guy over by our lake place. It turned out he was a good friend of our next door neighbor there and he knew a bunch of other people we know in the area! Small world. DH has sold stuff and given stuff away too all without incident. I've only used it myself to advertise garage sales and stuff like that.
If some stranger wanted to use my bathroom, that would be a BIG oh, heck no! We're less than ten minutes from fast food places and gas stations, they can go there.

No but I bet I totally creeped someone out. Once we bought a rody horse and the people said they'd leave it on the porch and to leave the $20 in an envelope. Dh has a running joke with his friend because his daughter has rody, so dh took photos of it and mails them a postcard from rody when we're on vacation... So we got ds the identical red rody to keep taking photos and making postcards more like a flat Stanley (although we haven't actually done any) Anyways dh wanted to leave a photo of rody that said thanks for the memories, except he had no pen in the car so he literally just left $20 and a photo of the toy to strangers... Needless to say if that happened to me I'd be totally weirded out.

I've only had good experiences with Craigslist and Facebook buy/sell groups. I haven't done a ton of it, but the few times I have I have met some really nice people.

During Superbowl week 2014, our local police plus SBI broke up a international sex slavery ring that was advertising on Craigslist.
I've bought and sold stuff through Craigslist in other areas we lived, but I haven't found anything really good in our area. I'm not against using Craigslist, I just haven't seen anything worth hassling about. I also think that Craigslist isn't as tempting because there are so many amazing charity thrift stores and furniture/antique consignment and flea malls/markets. Every weekend at the State Fairgrounds there is a humongous flea market not to mention Raleigh has a farmer's market that is open daily.
I have bought stuff through the want ads before the internet. I was looking for a saddle, and it was such a hassle because people aren't honest in their descriptions and tend to ask for way too much money--like a woman that had a "slightly used" Steuben english saddle. The price was a bit high, but I thought it would be because the saddle was still pretty new. Nope, 20 years old and looked like she just dug it out of a musty garage. She was pissed that I didn't want it. I wound up purchasing a brand new saddle for a few hundred dollars less. It wasn't a Steuben, but it was very well made and so comfortable.
I do get a lot of stuff off Ebay. There are a lot of local places that will let you pick up items, plus you have the ensurance through Ebay and PayPal's policies that the items will be as described or you can get your money back. Dh and I have done a lot of buying and selling with Ebay.
I do LOVE to read the strange things that people write on Craigslist. It's a weird mix of hilarious, pathetic, creepy, naivete, and disturbing.

I have never bought or sold anything on Craigslist, but our local police dept has started letting people do online selling meetups in their parking lot. I thought that was a great idea.

We've bought and sold a few things and nothing bad until............
My DH wanted to buy a portable potty chair for his elderly mother. He decided to look on Craigslist and found a brand new one for free. This lady gave him directions to her gated apartment complex and the code to get in. Then gave him her apt #. He took me with him. The lady said she would have the chair sitting outside her door and to ring the bell when we got there. We had a specific time to meet.
She met us at the door wearing only a white tee shirt that barely covered her hoohah. We were shocked and apparently very naive as there is some kind of fetish with potty chairs we were unaware of.
We took the chair and ran. It was brand new. I told DH "never again."

There was the lady who brought her pet monkey with her to buy a TV. She also wanted to just throw the TV in the back of her truck. DH insisted it be secured. She continued to email and asked we could come "fix" the remote. She couldn't figure out how to change the batteries. For about a year she had us on her chain mail list so I'd get the forward this or you'll die emails. They went to spam and then it stopped.

Whether I am buying or selling I have a pre sale plan - stuff in the garage, have my husband or son with me, money to make change, and so far no weridos.

No because in my mind, everyone on CL is a creepy potential axe murderer and I don't use it.

I would never sell on Craigslist. I'm in the middle of a huge city and there are just too many weirdos! There have also been a couple of murders over the years that were related to people trying to sell cars on Craigslist. I'd rather just donate something than take that chance. If I were in a small town, I think I'd be more open to trying it out. I live just north of San Diego. I sold a mini-van on Craigslist. However, when I met people to look at it, I always met near a Starbucks. I also never got in the car for a test drive. I figure if they would steal the car, better if I wasn't in it. It turned out that the van was very easy to sell and the guy that bought it barely even drove it around the parking lot.

We've only had really good luck with craigslist. Last weekend I bought a sofa and loveseat set from somebody who lived right down the street from us. DH and I went to look at it first, then told them we'd need to rent a truck from HomeDepot in order to transport it home. The owner offered to deliver it to our house since we were so close.
