A co-worker (co-irker) sort of received a promotion. No change of rank, or raise, but an increase in duties. She's still my equal at work.
But since she's received this sort of promotion, she's hitched up her bossy pants and has started treating everyone 'below' her like morons. She. Talks. Real. Slow. To. Make. Sure. We. Understand. Yeah, I understand the job duties that haven't changed since I've started here. I do job A, when finished do job B, and if I have time do job C. Got it. Not that hard.
I was hoping as time passed, she'd adjust and get over herself. But no. She's getting worse. And has went from someone we all loved to an 'ugh...I have to work with her today' person.
Now when we have a conversation I start talking real slow back to her. Just like she does to us.
Mature? Heck no. But it makes me feel better.
So tell me about your immature moments. I need a laugh before going back to work tomorrow.

I'd be tempted too! But be careful, do it too long and she'll think you are slow, and be more tedious. Makes me think of the church organist playing slow for emphasis, so the congregation sings slower. Then the organist thinks they need to slow to accommodate...and on and on. Soon, an uplifting hymn sounds like a dirge.

Maybe [with puzzled look on your face] say "why are you speaking so slowly, is everything OK?"

That doesn't actually sound like a promotion to me...more responsibility, but no pay raise or rank? She's making less money per responsibility and time it takes her to do it.
if she realized that, maybe she's take a step back.

I've thought the same thing, especially on her extra insufferable days. You think we're morons?!? Yet you are doing this job on top of your other duties for no extra pay or benefits?!? Who exactly is the moron?

I've had a few of those myself. Not necessarily the same thing but at work we have little 2 passenger carts we drive around, sort of like a golf cart but much more basic. When some men see my driving they act like they are afraid and try to hide behind things. When this happens I have taken to call out, "Don't worry, I have never run over a man accidentally!" It takes them a moment to realize what I've actually said to them but far fewer of them are jumping out of my way.

That's would I would do: ask her to smile, who the president is, and to raise both arms over her head. I work in a hospital, so they would get it right away.

Hehe show real concern, she might be having a stroke! That's would I would do: ask her to smile, who the president is, and to raise both arms over her head. I work in a hospital, so they would get it right away. Ooh. She used to work at a hospital as a nurse's aid. Mwahahaha. I won't do anything but vent here and be mildly passive aggressive. I've seen the looks our supervisor is giving her so I think the situation will be addressed eventually. Hopefully sooner than later. It's such a shame because I used to really like her. Now I go out of my way to avoid her. It makes for an awkward work environment.
