Yes, thank you. The Amazon list seems practical with some creative things thrown in to keep the kids occupied too.

Cindy, the lady who started this up, consulted with Catholic Charities first to see what kinds of items they needed the most. They are very practical and the kinds of things any stranded traveler would appreciate.

Thanks for sharing this! I wonder if it's affiliated at all with Matthew 25 Ministries. What a great way to spread love and compassion!

Not to discourage anyone from helping out in this regard, but they had the priest who is the head of Catholic Charities in the MacAllen, (sp?)TX area on the news last evening...when the interviewer indicated that they probably could use a lot of help, the priest seemed almost embarrassed to say actually money wasn't an issue at this point! I was surprised, but that is great...I remember after Katrina, how much stuff they said went to waste because of the logistics of distribution, much of it wasn't the things that were needed and there was just such an overwhelming outpouring of "stuff". Hopefully Matthew 25 has a better handle on all of this. It would certainly be a task to coordinate...and looks like it could be ongoing for a very long time.

My understanding is that these kits will go to the children who are being fostered/housed in the DFW area. The kids are supposed to be moved up to DFW very soon and these will be welcome kits for them and any adults traveling with them.

Donating in situations like this is very complicated. We all (or most of us) want to help and we feel better if we can "do something" -- but it is critical to determine how to best help. I was all set to go to the Amazon link... but I think I'll wait a bit. I remember that sooo much money was donated to help Haiti rebuild and it is still a mess over there... I have a friend who has been trying to rebuild a small library there for years. So much of the donated $ has disappeared. Pathetic.

Operation Matthew 25's Amazon WishListCompwalla, I've shared on FB and have some items in my Amazon Cart. Is the C.Cole address in Denver the correct one? I'm assuming so... but hope for confirmation before completing this purchase. I don't think I've ever seen that address as an option in my "send to" list before so am 99.9% sure C. Cole is the person who created this wish list. Thanks

She's had volunteers at her house helping pack the boxes over the past few days. Thank you very much for supporting this effort.

I did just confirm with Cindy Noble that Ft Worth Catholic Charities is accepting donations and the items from Operation Matthew 25 will be distributed to the refugee children being housed in the area. Ft Worth CC is also coordinating with Dallas CC to spread the donations to the kids in the Dallas area as well. Ft Worth CC has expressed awe and appreciation for the outpouring of support we're showing these kids. We as individuals can't fix the problem but we can help these children feel safe and cared for. Thank you to everyone who has or will contribute.

Done. Take that, League City.
(For those who aren't aware, the City Council of League City, TX recently voted to ban undocumented children from entering or being housed in their city. There were and are no plans to house these kids in League City, BTW - it was just an ugly show of spite.)

I never stop being amazed at the spitefulness human beings can sometimes harbor in their hearts. And sometimes the generosity, too. Thanks for the link, Compwalla.

UPDATE: Catholic Charities San Antonio is also interested in helping the children housed there and nearby at Lackland AFB. Cindy is working with WHIT members on the ground there to co-ordinate a collection site locally. This is growing and I am very proud of my fellow Texans. Boots on the ground, indeed.
