easier just to go back to keeping them "untreated" and short!
But I like the pretty French shellac look.
It's like I have this asset on my fingertips and am constantly worried about its condition!
If you've had manicures or nail treatments for a while, do you still do this? Check every time you feel a snag or do something that might cause a chip?

Every few months I take my polich off for a few weeks. I use a clear growth polish or just buff and let them be.

I cannot keep nails polished for more than a day. I love the look and it makes me feel fancy, I'm just horrible at keeping them pretty.

I don't polish my fingernails, have to keep them short for work and to play guitar, but I do keep my toes polished during sandal season. So yes, I do check my toes 'cause chipped, worn off polish is a pet peeve. Better none than nasty....

I treat them the same way I do the paint on a new car. Admire the beauty and enjoy them but don't worry about every little nick or you'll drive yourself crazy

Nail polish never lasts more than a day for me. It drives me crazy to have messed up nails, so I always find myself checking too, and then when I see that it's messed up, off with the polish!
I wish it would last longer. I love the look of polished nails, but mine never look that nice.

Work rules are short fingernails and the only polish allowed is clear.
I do wonder how long a fancy manicure would last when you have to sanitize your hands 40-50 times a day with 70% alcohol based cleaners.
Lots of hand lotion is the only thought I give to my hands.

You must work in healthcare too. I'm a NICU RN. We aren't even allowed to wear clear polish. Luckily I work my shifts all in a row so can wear polish on my stretch off. Sharlag, I love wearing nail polish. I also find myself constantly checking for chips.

Nope I don't worry about it. My manicurist does a great job.

I do my own nails and find myself checking them a lot the first couple of days. After I get some tip wear, I don't check them as often. I've finally found a top coat that works great for me so my mani will stay nice for longer than a day now.

I'm not doing anything really rugged with my hands, but I do tend to chip them. The clasp on my wallet is hard on my nails. I might switch it out.

I'll bet that alcohol would erode the polish and make it thinner, at least.

I can usually get a week in (or close to it).

About one shift, lol But I do my nails almost every day because I enjoy it. I do then while I listen to the tv and I find it relaxing.

For the last 20 years or so, no manicures just pedis during the summer sandal season. For awhile I had acrylics, then gels because I didn't like the polish chipping off. I have nice nails naturally so I just shape them and keep them relatively short. With some of the new stuff that is coming out I am a little tempted to try the shellac or the jamberry nails (I think that is what they are called )

I love to do my nails. They are short and pathetic but look very nice (I think) when done in an ombre french manicure. I am taking biotin to try and improve their condition. I do check all the time for chips and snags, file often and repair chips nightly.

I started wearing Jamberry nails and never looked back. I can get 2 weeks of wear out of them pretty much every time.

My nails chip easily too, but they do even if I get a manicure (which I seldom do). I got a pedicure once and loved it! It lasted long since it's just my toes. But besides the price, I am not proud of my feet, so too embarrassed to go back. If only the podiatrist had a nail salon I would love that!
I hope StacyAngel does another nail polish thread soon. I love all the ideas on nail color and want to pick something fun to wear on our beach vacation.

Guilty. I have been doing gel nails for a while, but my own nails are so weak that they break anyway and rarely last longer than a week. We were just on vacation so most of them lasted a week but now three have broken so I need to find time to get the rest of them off. I had a french manicure so the growth is not as noticable at least.
I wish I had time to do them at home, but by the time I sit down at night, they'd not be dry enough at bedtime and be ruined.

I like the idea of these, but I must have odd shaped nails because I can never get those nail strips to fit properly. And I'm not crazy about patterns, don't think I could pull it off.

I have one nail that must be damaged in the bed because it splits as soon as it gets any length at all. It drives me crazy to have one short nail and the rest long. I wish I could figure out a solution . I have tried just about every type of nail hardener out there but nothing works. That's my rant for the day!

Although I love the look, I chip polish very quickly---partly, I think, because I type so much. I occasionally get pedicures, but more just for the pampering because I'm too lazy to do my own or time-crunched to have a regular appointment.

I decided to keep mine unpolished. I use my nails too much or something so I just get a soft french manicure for events a few times a year. I like an oyster polish on the tips instead of the more common brighter white
