Just barely, but she passed!!!!! She is NOT a math person. She's majoring in Social Work and gets A's in all her social work classes, A's or B's in other classes, except for a "C" in Spanish. (we've hired a tutor for the summer so she'll be working on that for her last Spanish class.) But statistics totally eluded her. She went for help at the tutoring center every day. She camped in her prof's office for help. She did well enough on the homework and classwork. But she just could not retain it or apply it to the exams. She's always been this way with math (do well on homework, can't pass exams). If I'd thought about it or had it been suggested years ago I might have had her evaluated for some sort of learning disability. But anyway, too late for that. BUT SHE PASSED!!! OMG OMG OMG. Needless to say, I have one happy enough-credits-to-be-a-junior-next-year girl.

Congratulations to your DD! We are celebrating the same for my DS and his stats class! What a relief!

Congratulations to your daughter. That is not an easy accomplishment. There was no way I could wrap my head around stats.

This is hilarious!
I had exactly the same reaction when I passed statistics. It was my last class to pass for graduation, and I was taking it pass/fail, so I had to get 60% in the class to pass. If I didn't pass, no graduation and no job waiting for me. I opened my grade card and it said "P" and I danced around the lobby like a madwoman. I was really relieved (the TA didn't speak competent English and the professor was no help at all.)

Good for her! I detested that class. I even changed majors when they told me I'd need Stats 2. Nope. That isn't math. It's numeral gerrymandering until you get it where you want it.

That's awesome! In college, my roommate called statistics "sadistics," with good reason. LOL!

We call those barely made it grades "D for Done" I know how good it feels to pass a math class that was the bane of my existence for one long semester.
Congrats to your daughter!

Congratulations! I feel her pain. I took statistics and so did DD. DS will be lucky and not have to endure its wrath.

OMG this is so hilarious. If it weren't for math, I'd be a neurosurgeon. College statistics was my lowest grade in college (C+). When I got that you'd think I'd won the lottery. My sister had to take it 3 times. It's actually what stopped me from getting a PhD in Political Science--SPSS anyone? SIGH. When comparing my language arts/English scores with math, you'd think a different person was taking that test. Completely opposite. I've always scored REALLY REALLY high in English/reading comprehension/vocabulary. I'm an imbecile at math.
I understand your daughter's joy. That deserves a celebration!

Congrats to your DD!!! Does anyone ever pass this class with flying colors? I know my DD hated it with a passion and does so much better with other stuff.

Woo hoo!! That is awesome - and I know wherof I speak. I almost failed that *#^&$@# class myself! Had an engineering major at West Point for a boyfriend. He was unable to help me. Had a math major as a good pal. He was unable to help me. Went to the tutoring center in the math department (only time I ever utilized the tutoring service). They were unable to help me. The only reason I passed the class w/a D (talk about skin of your teeth!) was because I aced the final. Only reason I aced the final was because a sorority sister took it earlier in the day and was able to confirm that it was the study guide verbatim. I simply memorized the answers. Can you even? Tell your daughter she should be very proud of herself!!

Oh I am getting anxiety just thinking about it. So happy for her. I took Statistics for Healthcare last Fall and I am still having PTSD from it...I can hardly imagine the full-fledged Stats class.

Oh man, I can relate! I never would have gone back to college or on to grad school (I'm being 100% serious) if I knew in advance how much math I would have to take! Statistics was really hard for me too, and in my undergrad I think I passed with a C but by the time I'd taken all the other math classes for my MBA, I had the hang of it. Whew! I worried all.the.time. It took me 5xs as long to do homework and I studied my hiney off but what an accomplishment when it's over! Congrats to your daughter!

Congratulations to her!
If you seriously think she could have some kind of learning disability, it's never too late to be diagnosed and learn strategies to deal with it. I'd encourage her to get herself evaluated.

IME stats is all about the professor, the math is really super basic. It's more about solving the problem and knowing what to do. I'm glad she passed. I really struggled in one of my stats classes (I've had to take them in undergrad and grad school), and it was a sweet, sweet victory to get a "B" (which is how you pass in my grad program).
Good for her!

Congratulations to your dd! I'll be the exception to the rule on this thread. I actually rather enjoyed statistics in college. I'm a total non-math person, but it just seemed to make sense. I had a more difficult time with my graduate stats course, for sure. I met my dh in my undergrad statistics class.

One memory I have of Stats in college (I didn't think it was that bad for some reason) was that our professor had to change our grades after our 'report cards' came out. He had miscalculated the grade and they were too low! Ha!

My DD was freaked about science this year. She was just so frustrated that she was paying to get her BA in HISTORY and she had to take a science!
