Ugh. I'm opening a new business. It's in a brand new building. My landlord gave the contract to finish out my space to the contractor who was building the whole structure. He assured us he could do the build out in 3-4 weeks from the time he got the contract. Then sat on his hands for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm now getting an estimate of June 5 of when they will be done. They should have been done this Friday! Now I won't get access until June 5, when I then need to get the entire space painted, a floor but in, furniture delivered, stock delivered, arranged, etc. I won't open until the 1st of July, probably. Which means I'll miss an entire month of summer business, have the cancel the summer camps I had planned. I'm so pissed off!!!!!
Sorry, just needed to vent. I know there isn't anything I can do about this, but my husband really doesn't need to hear me scream any more.

I'm so sorry. How frustrating! Do you think the time lapse had anything to do with getting permits, or did he already have all of that taken care of?

Not a lawyer , but I would think If you have a contract and he breaches and you lose money, then you can sue. If low enough for small claims, maybe consider it. Then you are not paying a lawyer.

I hope you had a contract and included a finishing date? If so you can hold them accountable if not then not so much.

Since it's a brand new business, it is going to be difficult to prove a loss.
Did you have a written contract concerning the time frame or was just a verbal from the owner. I would still ask him for a month's free rent since you can't open on time.
