Jessie Palmer was on ABC News a bit ago. He basically said that if we think NE's quarterback is the only quarterback that "has preferences", it's not true. He also said that TB is one of two of the greatest quarterbacks, along with Montana. And, this won't affect that. That said, TB had to know they were off. Somebody who handles that many balls (insert 13 year old laugh), every day had to have either known or expressed a preference. I'm a diehard NE fan, and am very disappointed in my team and QB. There is speculation that there will be some punishment, and there should be. To me, that's pretty much why it's such a disgusting situation. That talented athletes want to cheat. It's just a sad commentary that they're pretty much all cheating, as Palmer admits to. I could almost understand, but never condone, a craptastic player feeling the need to cheat. But by the time you make pro in any sport, everyone is really talented. Why mess that up with cheating? On second thought, why not? It's totally not about sport and talent any more. It's just about winning and/or setting records at all costs. No one, including the athletes themselves, the league, or the fans, give enough of a crap to insist on change. It is nice to see that at least one NE fan cares, though. One of my oldest and dearest friends from college is an OTT NE fan. She's gotten progressively more shrieky with each successive cheating scandal, to the point that I have to hide her posts during football season. Had to do the same thing today, because it was all rant, rant, rant mixed in with deny, deny, deny.

They must not be very good at cheating, as they get caught and the other teams don't usually. And, you are right. By the time you make it in the NFL, you are good enough at the game that you don't need to cheat.

Just leaves me shaking my head and wondering WTH anyone would do something as stupid as ensuring that they're always remembered as a cheat, when were abundantly talented to begin with, and had no need to do it.

I know you all care deeply but I hate Tom Brady. I hate Gisele (even thoughI love her name). And I hate football.
Carry on.

I think it's borderline delusional to think this won't affect the perception of Tom Brady as one of the two greatest quarterbacks. His name and his record will NEVER be mentioned again without reference to these actions. However he might have been judged by sports historians, this will always be the asterisk beside his name.

Apparently Las Vegas has suspended the betting on the Patriots-Steelers game based on the fact that Brady could be suspended for that game. At the time, Patriots were favored by 6.5 points.
Funny thing is, I thought God-dell purposely gave the Steelers the Patriots in game #1 because he knew that Leveon Bell wouldn't be playing...lol.

No Tom Brady, seems like a fair game to me.lol The fact that the Pats wouldn't let McNally do a follow-up interview and Brady wouldn't turn over his texts/phone calls speaks volumes. Innocent people have nothing to hide.

If the slightly ambiguous (not really) conclusions aren't enough to suspend him, his refusal to fully cooperate with the investigation should be sufficient.

Most people think the Roger God-dell does whatever Robert Kraft wants him to. I think the results of Spygate tell us that.

From an HR standpoint, I agree that failure to cooperate with an investigation generally would lead to suspension until either (1) the employee decides to cooperate or (2) the employer gets tired of waiting and terminates the relationship. However, you have at least one contract in play here and probably multiple levels of lawyers on both sides. And you have a hot commodity player that the immediate employer doesn't want to (can't afford to) lose. So bad behavior is allowed because he is SPECIAL. UGHHHHH! Worst time to be a part of the HR dept in the NFL! Because I doubt either side would want to listen to sound HR practices. Money on both sides just talks too loud.
I truly do hope the NFL suffers from this, but I have to say I doubt it will since most people won't think it affects them or their team or they rationalize it away by saying everyone cheats. I truly hate that excuse for any behavior!

Now that the NFL is trying to take a no tolerance approach and the the Pats already have a strike against them from Spygate I don't see this being swept under the rug. I think he gets a 4 game suspension that will be appealed and reduced to 2 games and a substantial fine.

What I fail to understand is why the League allowed the game to start knowing full well the game balls were likely underinflated. It sounds to me as if there is a shred of accuracy to Tom Brady's dad saying this was "frame gate". It will be interesting to see what the NFL does to Brady, if anything.

I am not a Patriots fan or Brady fan, golly, I am not even a fan of football, but I found a few points interesting from the AM news. These are not my thoughts, but just the things I saw reported. First- I saw reported that he did better in the second half of the game after the balls were found to be bad and fixed. He is an amazing, legendary type player and could win with or without the tampered balls. Second- This and other types of cheating are done all the time by all teams but because he is a big name, he will be punished more not less than others. The "expert" on the news even said a lesser player would not get any attention on this. And the third was the interview with a man (I don't know football so I don't know him) that explained that the Patriots are a hated team because other team's fans are jealous of their success. He compared them to the NY Yankees. He made it seem like people pile on against the Pats simply because they are jealous. And these fans will celebrate in seeing this happen. I find that sick... 1. No doubt Brady is a great quarterback. So why does he need to do things like deflate balls? 2. My seven year old doesn't get by with the whiny "everybody else is doing it", so I'm not about to give adults a pass either. If cheating is so endemic, then the league needs to address it or the teams need to be more vocal. Joining in, then pointing fingers, doesn't give you a lot of credence. 3. I stopped following football eons ago and don't have a team. I even have rooted for the Patriots (went to school in Boston - hard not to!). I get a little tired of the "jealousy" excuse. That's like a woman doing something shady then saying "don't hate me because I'm beautiful". There will be various reasons people have these feelings about the whole scandal, but it's not unrealistic to think that sometimes people just don't like cheating and dishonesty.

I don't think the NFL can afford to sweep this under the rug. One of the reasons God-dell is so hated is how the NFL just basically shrugged off Spygate. The Patriots were filming other teams for YEARS and when it all came to light? The tapes mysteriously disappeared and the Patriots were slapped with a big fine. They had won several Superbowls during Spygate. Last year was the first SB win they achieved since. Interesting that THAT win is now tainted as well.

I get tired of the jealousy thing too! I'm not even invested enough in the Patriots to be able to name 3 players even though we played them in the Super Bowl. So no, I'm not jealous of them, I don't like anyone that cheats whether it's the Patriots or the Yankees and both have been proven to cheat or have players on their team that cheat.

I don't follow professional sports, but to me, one of the things that I find most distasteful about the whole 'they're so good, other people are just jealous' argument is this: "are they really that good, or are they only that good because they cheat??"
If they're really THAT good, then they shouldn't need to cheat. The amazingly staggering, nauseating amounts of money that are spent on professional sports like basketball and football have quite possibly led to this 'need' to 'be the best no matter the cost' and it's rather appalling, in my opinion.
The word 'sport' and 'sportsmanlike' has a connotation for me, anyway, of athletic ability, teamwork, and skill, and that seems to have gone by the wayside. The only professional sport we still watch with any regularity is professional tennis, where it's much more obviously a test of athletic ability and skill.

Does anyone else find it really odd or almost humerous when other new media like CNN or MSNBC even Fox or others... covers the press confrences for sports? Like the Tom Brady one today? I don't know why...

The rest of the story .... "The N.F.L. gave New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady a four-game suspension on Monday, citing his role in the team’s illegal deflation of footballs. The league also fined New England $1 million and took away two draft picks, including a first-round choice in 2016." naughty, naughty
