So what did you think of this book? I just finished it. I really loved the fact that we already know many of the characters. I was a bit disappointed because I felt like there where a few things left hanging. Did Jake and Carla ever buy that house? Why did Judge Atlee act like such a jerk towards Jake at times? Was he aware of the history? I also liked the end, but I had thought that Lettie would have been found to be Seth's daughter. Still I liked the reason he wanted to give back to Lettie.
What do you all think?

I LOVED this book! I missed thinking that Lettie could be Seth's daughter... that would've made it interesting for sure. This is one of my favorite Grisham books. I would rank it right behind A Time to Kill.
The ending was wonderful, and I think Jake and Carla got the house.

I think A Time To Kill is also my favorite. It was also my favorite movie to book, then The Firm.

This was one of those books where I felt like I was plodding along a bit at times, but then the ending felt so moving and perfect. It made it all worthwhile for me. I may have even gotten a little teary eyed. That's how "A Time to Kill" was for me, too.
I do have a thing for movies and books, though, that leave a few questions unanswered. You know those stories that just sort of fade to black and leave most people going "what just happened??" I LOVE that.

Good to know y'all enjoyed it. I have a copy but haven't started it yet because I want to reread A Time to Kill first.

You might also like the Summons. It is also about Judge Atlee and Clanton, Mississippi

I wanted to like it, but thought it was just ok. I felt like it was written to be moving, but didn't move me, if that makes sense--way too much of the narrator in his own head.
