My sister and I have talked about this for years and just this weekend we both decided the time was right.... we are planning a trip to Norway for Summer 2016! We have cousins there who have visited us twice so we've had a long-standing invitation to visit them... and we're going to do it. I'm so excited!!! That.is.all.

That sounds like a great trip. I hope you'll share all the great stuff you find, and pictures of the trip

Awesome! I went to Norway 12 years ago and loved it. Would love to go back. That's great you have cousins there - will be fun to have local "guides". Be sure to post lots of pictures!

We were there last summer. In the fjords - fabulous!!! Hubby worked out the most fantastic itinerary and we were awed by the scenery, the people and the cost! Very expensive place to visit. The only thing I regret not doing was we didn't have enough time to bike the Atlantic Rd.
Take sleeping masks. The sun never sets in the summer and for some reason none of the places we stayed (except an inside room on board the MS Midnatsol, a Hurtigruten cruise ship) had curtains.

Which part of the country will you be visiting (if you will keep it private, just ignore my question).

No midnight sun below the arctic circle ;-) , but yes, even here in the south it isn't completely dark except fir 3 hours.

How exciting I am also curious which part of the country you are visiting, maybe you will be in my neck of the woods I live in the southwest, so we do actually have dark nights. Well.... it would probably be more accurate to call it 3-4 hours of dusk. It never gets pitch black in summertime. If you are in North-Norway then it will be daylight all summer long (and complete darkness all winter long). Are you visiting certain sights or...? I definitely helps having local guides that can show you hidden gems that tourists usually never get to see.

Don't you just love it when someone posts... and then never comes back! LOL I've been traveling for work....
Anyway, thanks everyone for being as excited as we are! Both of us have traveled extensively all over the US but not ever, not once, outside the country (okay, a bit in Canada and Mexico). Excited!
To those who asked... most of my family lives near Alesund with a couple in Oslo. We really need to study our map of Norway!

I will be watching this thread because I am in London right now before boarding our ship on Saturday for our Norwegian Cruise. :-)
We will be visiting Flam, Alesund, Oslo, and one other port that I can't remember right now.
A couple of questions for our Norwegian peas: 1) What Norwegian specialties should I plan on buying and bringing back to the U.S., if any? 2) What special foods should we try? I have heard of the sausage with the mashed potato and onion topping, and, sadly, I don't like fish...
I am really excited! I am mostly of Italian heritage, but found out recently through a DNA test for my mother that she is over half Norwegian, which makes that the second largest nationality for me. I know very little of the culture heritage, so I am very excited to learn and experience your lovely country.
I am a little scared of the weather, though...I left warm weather in Utah and am already freezing here in London!
Cheers! Erin
