We've had a fabulous staff appreciation week. Our PTO handles it (PTO officers, members and recruited parents). They have something planned for every day this week. Monday was coffee and treats. Tuesday was breakfast. Today was snacks. Tomorrow is a pasta bar for lunch. Friday will be treats and gifts. We also had chair massages by appointment Monday and Tuesday and will again Friday. Every classroom got a sign put up on it's door thanking the teacher and EA in that room. Today we also had tables set up by our board (charter school) with signs of appreciation and fun sized candy bars/chocolates scattered all over - it was awesome because we could just drop by (a few times) and pick up a small treat.
And, yes, our week is staff appreciation week. It takes everyone in our buildings to educate our students and give them a safe, clean and (mostly) happy learning environment. I am an Educational Assistant, not a teacher. Being appreciated has been wonderful. The custodians, the lunch ladies, the principals, the teachers, counselors... everyone gets appreciated during this week.
I feel like I'm bragging, I guess I am... on our PTO and board. I really wish that everyone experienced the same during this week.

Just to address the "teacher" vs. "staff" appreciation, I absolutely consider instructional assistants and the like to be included in "teacher appreciation."
Our PTO does a wonderful job making us feel appreciated; we'd like to see more appreciation from our admin.

We got an email from our principal basically telling us that anything the administration did would be meaningless and the email was their thanks.

I totally consider every single member of our school team a teacher. They all make our school work. I do however resent have one "chosen" group singled out. Kwim?
Glad you are having a great week!

We got lunch from the school board/admin yesterday - at least most of us did. The superintendent under ordered so there was not enough food for everyone. All staff were included in the "appreciation" but some didn't get anything. So he will be ordering more for them on another day, I guess. He told the school board tonight to expect another bill for it.
Our parent group is doing lunch for us one day next week.

Wow... gsquared, that's terrible. What a way to promote morale. I'm sorry. This in a district that froze our pay and step four years ago. No money problems. We have had over 60 percent staff turnover in four years. The others still here are pretty much everyone over 10 years experience, but we even had some of those leave. I was happy we at least got an email saying thanks!

We have an incredible PTA! They do something for us every day of the week. Lots of potlucks though, so if you're afraid of homemade food, you wouldn't like our teacher appreciation week! We had a taco bar on Monday, we had fried chicken and all the fixings today, we have a hamburger grill out on Friday. Yesterday, we had gourmet popcorn (Homemade)-- lots of sweet and savory flavors. Tomorrow is our sonic drink day – my favorite day!

Our PTO always takes good care of us. Lunch on Monday, breakfast on Friday, and smaller treats in our boxes the rest of the week. It's much appreciated!

At our school , we changed it up a bit. Instead of each class doing something this week, we budget lunch once a month for the teachers. It's quite nice .

I help, host it at our school for the staff ( and yes we do staff). Monday-kids brought Ina flower for the teachers. The teachers have vases and make bouquets from what they receive-all the teachers get enough flowers to make more than one Tuesday-high five-students trace their hands and write what they love about their teachers-room parents use them to decorate the door. Principal also provides a lunch for all staff Wednesday-a note of thanks-kids write thank you notes to people who make our school better. That can be teachers, custodians, lunch staff, secretaries, etc. my daughter made 11 Thursday-staff lunch provided by parents. There is always enough left over for Friday as well Friday-staff floats our boats-root beer and coke floats provided for the staff at lunch Our little school is great

When I was with the PTO, all staff were included in staff appreciation as all have their part in the education process. One day we had some breakfast items (muffins, fruit, coffee, juice, etc.), another day we had Subway sandwiches, veggie tray, etc. and another day, we had desserts along with coffee and tea. We always made sure that the afternoon janitor had food set aside for him. For the day we did breakfast, we brought in a Chipotle dinner for him.
Each staff member's door was decorated in a unique way, usually the room parent coordinated it for the teachers. For all the other staff, other PTO members and other parents picked a door. It was everyone (principal, nurse, office, guidance counselor, speech, reading recovery, all the unified arts). I always liked to do the custodians door. One year, I asked random students "What you do think the custodian does?" and I got some unique answers. The kids drew a picture of what they thought the janitors did "after hours". Many children mentioned putting down the "puke sawdust", others noted that both janitors really enjoyed when Flat Stanley and the mischievous leprechaun went around the school. Apparently the janitors were notorious for their Flat Stanley and Leprechaun antics. Others wanted to know what the janitors' work area looked like and drew a picture that the janitor's area was a behind the scenes water park. One little boy was fascinated about why the janitors rubbed the floors with the tennis ball on a stick.
One parent (for the art teacher's door) one year had the students do an interpretation of famous art works.
The lunchroom door was GREAT each year: really the best. The mom that did those doors was an artist and she painted pictures of each lunch staff member in a unique theme. The "lunch ladies plus one lunch dude" always wore a different theme outfit each day of staff appreciation week. Stereotype of a lunch lady outfit one day, Hawaiian luau, Ghostbusters, 80's neon (with the lunch dude rocking the WHAM! look). Oh we had such fun that week. My son's last year at the school, I had the PE teacher's doors. I put his face on famous super heroes and also famous athletes.
It was fun. I tried to do the doors in a way that when it was over, I could take it down and put it into a little scrapbook and give it to the person.

Once again I'm jealous of all these kind gestures! I teach Kindergarten. Last year no one acknowledged it and 4 days into this year's Teacher Appreciation Week it appears to be a repeat. Disappointing when no one even verbally says thanks.
Oh well. I love teaching, love my class, and I know I'm a good teacher. We don't do it for the thanks, I know.

Not much has happened for teachers at my school this week. We got travel mugs in our mail boxes Monday--got mine Tuesday morning as I was off Monday for doctor appointments. Yesterday, we got a school pen. Nothing in our boxes today. Tomorrow the PTSA is hosting a breakfast. So far, that's all I know that's happening. We just came off of 2 weeks of our second round of PARCC testing. We're all in a bit of a tense mood. I swear, all we want is a week to TEACH without all the crazy interruptions, assemblies, etc. I'm so far behind in my classes with high school exams (I teach a HS class in middle school) coming up in a month...I'm worried for my students. I want them to do well, but I'm not sure I have the time to make that happen.

I am a lunch lady at a smaller, rural district. My Primary School PTO rocks! All staff are included in Staff Appreciation Week. We received a t-shirt with the school logo, a cute notepad and pens, popcorn and a Red Box coupon, lunch every day including a baked potato bar and pizza, Sonic Drinks tomorrow. It's wonderful to be included!

Our central administration sent up cookies on Monday with the same letter they print out every year (they just change the date on it.)
Our principals have done nothing, but in their defense were told by the central admin that they were not allowed to spend money on teacher gifts.

I'm our PTA president, and also working at the school this week as a sub. I found out that the lady in charge of the week did nothing because she's a total flake. Thankfully, I found out a few days ahead of time, so I busted my butt to try and make something happen every day! Monday I gave out little treats, Tuesaday was hand written thank you cards, Wednesday I had lunch brought in, today was gift bags with little treats in them, and tomorrow is a drawing for a bunch of gifts I am raffling off. The principal has been great with letting me combine my PTA duties with my work duties. We have the best staff ever!

Our PTA could not be more wonderful to teachers. They have done something especially kind for us every day this week. We've gotten lunches, hats, books, beach towels, cake, cookies, you name it. We feel like we are being treated like royalty. I don't fuss too much about what the administration does. I think they show us their appreciation every day by being supportive and providing great leadership. Everyone is included in the celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. If you work at the school, you are appreciated and I like that very much!

We got an email from our principal basically telling us that anything the administration did would be meaningless and the email was their thanks. Do you guys do a boss's day? We do boss/secretary/everyone else on three different days. Today we had bagels from Panera and lunch from Subway. It was a carbolicious day.

Assistants, secretaries, etc. no bosses day, per se, but a lot of us give all the admins a holiday card and a little something. Years ago we would get holiday cards from admin but that stopped ages ago.

There is a really good quote about getting the most out of people when they feel valued. Perhaps that should go in their next boss' day card.

I am a school speech language therapist. I serve over 60 kids, but I never get remembered for teacher appreciation... never. I don't send anything to school for teachers except at Christmas and the end of the year, but my boys' speech therapist gets a gift at those times. At Christmas I send to the regular Ed teachers (2), SPED teacher (for one), speech therapist, paras that work daily with one boy (2), bus drivers---anyone who sees them most days a week (speech not as much but both boys go twice a week). I send to all of them again at the end of the year plus specials teachers. Our student council makes us breakfast every year. Admin will serve us root beer floats tomorrow. I respect and celebrate all staff who help our kids; however, there is a paraprofessional day and support staff day as well. We are all educators, but we're not all teachers. Teachers have degrees and the pay and responsibility of the position. I don't really care much though.

At my son's elementary school, the principal (and some parents) wash the teachers' cars one day. I always thought that was a fun idea.

I work at a high school (counselor, not a teacher). This is the first time in a long time I remember anything being done for Teacher Appreciation Week- and I was watching for it b/c of a thread here a couple of weeks ago.
Every day they've had a drawing for 2 $10 gift cards to random places. Which is nice, but we have a staff of 200 and 10 gift cards won't go very far. I haven't paid that close attention to the winners, but I think they've all been classroom teachers (no janitors, counselors, SLPs, etc). Which is fine. Whatever.
Today the administration ordered in lunch for everyone- pizza and salad. Except I heard that the food was pretty much gone about half way through the lunch periods. Maybe they were holding some back to replenish for the teachers with later lunch periods, but my co-worker who was there didn't think that was the case.
That's it, I think, unless something else happens tomorrow.
I love the idea of the car washes! Oh, man, I would LOVE that!

Last day of teacher appreciation week. I was prepared for the 2 year no acknowledgement streak to continue. However, I walked into the copy room this morning and ta da! A breakfast Kringle was on the table. Cut myself a big slice. Woohoo! Very nice.
