Do you like iced Americanos at Starbucks but want to replicate it at home? I have found a way to do so.
First I used a Bodum which is a French Press. I would assume any French press would work.
The coffee I use is either Kicking Horse, Saltspring Island Coffee Company, or other high quality coffee. I grind it on the ESPRESSO setting at the supermarket. I know you are supposed to have coarse ground but I find it doesn't give me enough flavour. I measure 3.5 Bodum spoons of coffee into the glass container.
The water is tricky. I use water that is 194F and it has been declorinated etc. Our water is neither hard nor soft. I take a coffee mug. The one I use is a big one. I fill it full of hot water and add it to the Bodum. I sometimes add a little bit more because the coffee I make might be a bit strong. Then I put the plunger lid on it and set the timer for *5* minutes. I take my cell phone with me to the kitchen and read on the internet while I wait.
I have a big glass that I like to use and I fill it 3/4 full of ice. Once the 5 minutes are up I plunge the Bodum and pour the coffee into the glass with ice. Some of the ice melts the coffee which is good in case it is too strong (I like strooooong coffee). I add cream (I can't tell you how much to add because I like creamy strong coffee). I don't use sugar but you can use any sugar you prefer.
If you know how to make better coffee than this please post below. Our resident coffee expert Becky Tech might know how to make it better than this because I trust her 1248% how to make awesome coffee.
Good luck!

I like sweet too! Sometimes I use raw sugar to sweeten my coffee. I like sweet a lot in fact.
I am sure Pioneer Woman makes a good iced coffee too. This is just another method that's all.
My French press was a refurbished Bodum for $17 at Starbucks. I figured for seventeen I could afford to take the chance. If didn't like it I could just donate it. I love it though!

I going to try this right now. I could really use a cold shot of caffeine. I'll report back.

This is just ONE method. There are a MILLION other methods to making good iced coffee out there. I am an expert on MY method only. You are an expert on YOUR method don't forget.

One of my last posts on Two Peas was for iced coffee advice! As I recall, many of the posters like the Pioneer Woman cold brew method or something similar, someone else also did the French press like you, and then most of the people just brewed regular coffee and used that.
I don't like ice in mine, so I brew the coffee and cool and refrigerate it and then use it with almond milk and sweetener. I was doing the pioneer woman overnight method, but it tasted exactly the same to me and was messier and more work than just plain brewing.

It's really good! I used Katz Best Blend (local Houston) ground very fine and topped off the extra strong coffee with a little water before adding my cream and sweetener. Definitely has an espresso-like smoothness. Thanks for inspiring me to get my rarely-used French press out of the cupboard.

Thanks.

I just use any brewed coffee and make it really strong. I make a pot of coffee at a time in my regular coffee maker and let it cool down in the pot for a while. I then pour it into a mason jar and store it in the fridge. I use milk instead of cream. I don't use sugar or sweetener as I don't use it when I drink hot coffee. I also use some of the brewed coffee to make "coffee cubes" instead of ice cubes to add that extra jolt of caffeine. Yumm! Ice waters down the coffee.
i drink iced coffee all summer long. For a special treat on some weekend nights, if I don't have to drive anywhere, I add Baileys instead of milk.

I basically do the same thing with my AeroPress. I make the coffee per usual only, instead of topping it up with hot water, I throw it over ice and top it up with milk.

If you make coffee ice cubes to use in it your iced coffee will not get watery.

I make my own with the leftover coffee. I make coffee ice cubes so my iced coffee doesn't get watered down and I use my flavored creamer. Yum!

Our resident coffee expert Becky Tech might know how to make it better than this because I trust her 1248% how to make awesome coffee. Coffee is a completely personal taste thing, so the only thing I'm an expert on is how I like it. If you (general you) like the results of your efforts then you are doing it right. However, if you (general you) freeze your coffee, expose it to light, heat, or air, I might come to your house and give you a dirty look. (It should be stored in an air-tight container in a dark, cool place.)

I am not sure why this is but in *my* house which is NOT my house, I am just a resident and parent of a child here I get no say what goes in the freezer. Coffee makes it in there. That being said (you had to know there was a but) coffee doesn't last more than say 3 days. We are constantly buying new bags of it. I would give it 3 days tops. I bought 4 lbs of Saltspring Island (personal favourite) and it lasted less than 2 weeks. Yeah I like my coffee. I do a half caff thing sometimes if I know I haven't had enough sleep and need to get moving that day. Your mileage may vary.
Thanks for reminding me Becky Tech, I am an expert on making coffee I like. I should have said that in my OP and I am going to go and edit it.

I do the cold brew (overnight method) for the best tasting coffee.
I also have a recipe that makes a nice and sweet base that you pour a little in a glass of ice and then fill with milk. I will have to find that recipe!

After trying a couple different ways, the one I like best is the Pioneer Woman's cold brew method, but I use Starbuck's Veranda coffee (and only make 1/2 gallon at a time because I"m the only one drinking iced coffee here). I want to try making simple syrup to sweeten it with next...
