My mother wanted me to ask if anyone here has had any success in separating old photos from glass?
My first thought is to try Undu, but since we're talking pictures from the late 1800s, I've been hesitant to take the plunge for fear of further damage. My second thought is we're screwed if the image is stuck to the glass, there's really no way to scrape that off and still have an intact photo. My third thought is to try to find a reputable place that restores old photos and see what they recommend. My final thought is to just leave the picture in the frame and try to have it scanned.
Anyone in the same boat? Which direction have you taken? Results good or bad?
Thanks for any thoughts

That's what I was going to say too, I wouldn't risk trying to get it off. I would try to photograph or scan it through the glass and make a new print from the digital version.

I have heard if you put it in the freezer the moisture that is holding it will freeze and allow it to separate from the glass. Maybe try it with a photo after you scan it.

I inherited a photo of my mom and her twin brother, age 3 in 1918, and it was already fused to the broken glass (not to mention that the photo was greatly faded and there were dirt spots under the glass). This is what it looked like after I scanned it. I used the scanned version in a family history album. It's not easy to make out all the details, but it's still a sweet photo that I treasure.
