My 10 yr old said that her teacher was trying to quiet the kids then broke down in tears and cried at her desk. I feel terrible for her, must have been a difficult day. I've done that when I'm frustrated with just my three kids, I can't imagine 25.
I'm thinking about sending her end of year gift early. She collects succulents and I was thinking about sending in one of those with a nice note making sure she knows I appreciate her. Of course I won't mention anything about what my dd told me.
Sound ok?

Been there, done that.

I think that would be a very nice thing to do. Especially the not mentioning it part.
One year, I had a very unruly class, and I had to ask an instructional assistant to cover my class for a few minutes so I could "go to the restroom." I really needed to shut myself in the stall and have a good cry. It was kind of mortifying when another assistant in the restroom was a witness to this.
Teaching is so much tougher than most people can ever understand until they actually try it for themselves.

I also think it's a kind gesture, and I think you are right not to mention it at all unless it's recurring.

I think it's a lovely idea. I've so been there done that with some classes. It's exhausting. It's depressing. It can make you feel like a failure. A kind gesture can go a long way; especially as we close to the end of the year when teaching can sometimes feel like herding cats! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

Been there. Luckily, I was able to hold it together until I saw my principal at the end of the day and then I lost it. I teach junior high. They're BRUTAL!
But, I've also cried in front of them when talking about my miscarriages. It shows that you are human. They were in tears right along with me when I told them about it. I teach science and it came up while I was teaching family life.

Geez, I've been there! Sometimes you just can't help it ... my first year of teaching was a nightmare ![:crying:](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/t4lmEAqHtTO6q6ksSmvP.jpg) Anything you can do to give that teacher a boost would be greatly appreciated ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I subbed for my daughters my teacher for 1.5hrs so she could go to the special Mother's Day mass with her son at our school. An hour and a half. I wanted to rip my hair out and hide in the bathroom. I am now planning on giving her teacher a bigger gift at the end of the year than I was planning on. And a gigantic one to my sons preschool teacher because oh my god I can't even imagine. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg)

. There is no tired like end of the school year tired. No doubt! I took a random left turn on the way to work earlier this week because I am just so tired! Keep in mind, I have traveled the same exact route to work for 9 of the last 10 years! OP, I think that would be a lovely idea. Sometimes it is the little things that make a really big difference. One year a girl gave me a gift of 2 glass Christmas ornaments from the dollar store. I know where they were from because it said so on the box. It was a very sweet gesture and me feel like I mattered to this student.

That's a lovely idea. I'm sure she will love it. Been there and done that. Just this week, in fact. I subbed for the pe teacher at the middle school. It was draining. 10 miles of walking combined with a child who has declared war on me and pulled his buddies into the feud and an entire class who didn't listen and wanted to argue with me. The sunglasses stayed on for an extra five minutes after we came inside so they didn't see how they got to me. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

That would be lovely. My 5th grade class drove our nun to tears once and I'll tell you - it was eye opening. We were angels for the rest of the year. When we realized that she was human and had feelings and how much our behavior impacted her, we changed our tune very quickly. I hope the same for your child's teacher.

And yeah. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/pd7N3dneptLj3pbgz5Gd.jpg) I'm a substitute teacher and it can be hard enough at normal times, but the end of the year is not normal! oy... I had a group of ten 5th graders yesterday (I was subbing for a reading teacher, and this was a pull-out group). omg. And these are kids who I know and who know me, so they know I'm all about getting work done and that I'm not a push over. After I started subbing I actually sent postcards to several teachers, anonymously so they'd have the fun of wondering who did it. I just said how much I appreciated what they were doing for "our kids", etc. I figured they'd think it was a parent since I said "our kids" and they'd never suspect me. I still send them from time to time, just for fun. No one has ever said anything to me so I'm sure they still think it's parents, maybe a PTA thing to bolster up the teachers at the end of the year. (and our year is long because we're making up snow days. I think our last day of school is June 20-something.)

What a nice gesture. Anything to make a teacher feel loved is great in my book. I have 3 more mornings with my 3 year olds. I will miss them and I won't miss them. All at the same time. The noise level in our room...............

I cried in my class this week. My brother passed away on Tuesday, and I went to work the next day. About 10 minutes in to the class, The tears came. I tried to compose myself, and was able to finish the day. When I was walking to my car, 2 of the little girls ran up and gave me a big hug. That meant the world to me. I think a little gesture to let the teacher know you care would be so nice. The end of the school year can get rough.

That is a really nice thing to do. There is not enough money in the world for me to teach. I can imagine that poor teacher had just reached her limit of stress for the day. Who knows what else is going on in her life.

scrappinmama, I'm so sorry for your loss. That had to be tough turning up for work the next day. How lovely that 2 little girls thought enough of you to give you hugs.
