The Freshman Son thread has prompted me to ask:
Has your school eliminated Trigonometry as a separate class? Ours has. It's not even a single semester offering
They've integrated it into other subjects.

It's covered in other math classes. When I was in school, we had trig for a semester and then analytic geometry the second semester. Ds' school has neither.

DS goes to a HS in northern Virginia with almost 3,000 students. They do not offer Trig. They offer it in conjunction with Algebra 2 and the class is called Algebra 2/Trigonometry. DS had Algebra 2 in 8th grade in Massachusetts, but when we transferred to Virginia, they would not accept the Algebra 2 class because it didn't have Trig in the title. He had to repeat the class, in spite of me petitioning the school. It was the biggest waste of time ever.

Trig was integrated with algebra 2 even back when I was in high school - 25 years ago.

Merge I didnt know they started doing it so long ago. Now I really feel old ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) was out of grad school by then! Is it sad my trig-love can now be considered trig nostalgia?

DS took Honors Geo/Trig as a Freshman, but our district is moving to integrated math classes. Integrated Math 1 will include Algebra 1, Geometry and Statistics, IM2 will include Alg 2, Geo/Trig & Probability and IM3 is TBA.
Way back when I was in HS it was all just called Math class (Math 9, Math 10, Math 11, Math 12).

It's called precalc here and has other stuff mixed in.
I really wonder what NY does, I grew up in NY and took the Trig regents so did they/will they change the regents, do they call it pre calc or algebra2? Just curious.

I think its covered in pre-cal around here. I know when I was in college I had to take a pre-calculus class that was functions and trig.

Also mixed into Pre-Calc in our district too, but they get a little of it in Algebra 2, which is what DS is in now as a freshman.

Our school's "normal" path is: Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC

Ours is integrated into Algebra 2 and Pre-Calc. I was surprised when my daughter didn't take "Trigonometry" but then I'm from the dark ages. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Trig was integrated with algebra 2 even back when I was in high school - 25 years ago. This, except we called it Algebra 3/4. Trig was the first half of that yearlong class. Oh, and it was only 24 years ago ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

Here most schools tend to do integrated math... so there is only Math1, 2,,3, 4 with honors and AP options. (the AP might not be integrated.. )

We still offer trig at our high school. The order depends on whether or not you are in honors, but we have Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trig (alg 3), calculus. There are others offered for kids who want to take an extra math as well, like statistics.

I took trig as a separate class lo these many years ago.
It's weird...trig was the ONLY high school math class that I didn't need a tutor for, and I did really well at it. Everything else, though? Forget about it.

Our little school offers Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Trig/Calculus. That's what my little school did too. It's covered here in Algebra 1 Honors, and then more throughly in Geometry and Algebra 2. It makes sense to teach it that way. Thanks everyone for input. I wasn't sure if this was widespread, or limited to our school.

Back in the day it was a separate class. The year I took it there were 30 of us who took Trig. The teacher had to make copies of the book, because the school only owned 9 books, The most that had ever taken Trig before that year was 5.
Now I think it is mixed in to Algebra II somehow.

It is mixed in some but ds was able to take the full college class of it (with college algebra for the other semester) in high school for college credit.
