We're talking about our next year's vacations and one of the vacations we are planning on doing is an all-inclusive to Mexico. Believe it or not, neither DH nor I have ever been to Mexico. This is what we want:
1. All inclusive 2. 4 or 5 star 3. amazing beaches
I have no idea which areas to even look at, let alone the hotels in those areas. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Where in Mexico do you want to go not a clue. Where do you suggest? It's just DH and I. We love being on the beach and in the water (ocean, not pool), so we want a fabulous beach. We don't know anything about Mexico, as we've never been. We've been to Maui several times, but DH wants to give Mexico a try. So this is all new to us.

I'd pick somewhere on the gulf side because IMO the beaches are much prettier than on the Pacific side.

There is NO WAY I would go to Barcelo unless I was taking kids with me. I went in 2014 during the summer and the place was absolutely overrun with kids from infants on up. We joined my brother, sister-in-law and my brother's two kids, one was only 17 so we could not go to an all adult. There were other things that I didn't like about Barcelo and I suspect that some of those were things they didn't allow due to all the kids. My sister-in-law was calling it "The resort of NO" after the first few days because of all the times we were told No to something we wanted to do. The best thing about Barcelo is right in front of the Palace (Barcelo is 5 resorts that are all next to each other) was some of the best, just off the beach, snorkeling in the area.
The all adult all-inclusive that I want to go to is The Royale. It is a sister resort to Gran Porto Real. The Royale is on the beach, IN the town of Playa del Carmen. I have been to the Gran Porto but not The Royale yet but have heard wonderful things about it. I love staying where I can walk out of the resort and shop on 5th Avenue or walk to the ferry to go to Cozumel for the day, etc. We didn't need a taxi unless we wanted to go to a further away excursion like Tulum. Many of the resorts on the Caribbean side of Mexico are not close to anything and set a ways off the main road so if you want to leave the resort to do anything, you need a taxi or go on a planned excursion that you can set up with the resort.

I've heard club med is great.
In feb we went to Azul Fives on the Mayan Riviera. We had a fantastic time, but there were children around. I've heard that they have a sister property that is adults only. I would recommend Azul fives in a heartbeat.
I would look for :
A villa close to the pool / beach Sit down dinners only Good connections / rides to the airport (you don't want to get dropped at the airport at 2 for your 8pm flight). Not too big (you don't want to be in need of a little golf cart). Good beach (Mayan riviera can be rocky /sea weedy).
I would go as far south as you think you can go, and on the Caribbean ocean
