I love the boasting about love for reading in this thread, that goes hand-in-hand with absolutely NOT reading what this "story" is really all about. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

Thanks for the article links.
Btw: I read to my kids every night (or almost) every night and day care read at least a half hour a day or more until age five. I have a college degree, am a teacher, a voracious reader, and have over 100 children's books—and —my boys were not interested in letters or words. They were speech delayed and are reading delayed (1st grade).
So there's that.

![](http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x447/ilovecookies999/681557_zps4scxyfou.gif) Oh my. Seeing that WND article and the Rush comments that were given, it' obvious that Rush's parents did not read to him nearly enough. His reading comprehension on the actual source article is beyond abysmal. Thank goodness someone posted a link to the actual source piece. That WND site is sad proof of what the American media has become. There's not an ounce of accuracy in that opinion piece trying to pass itself off as a news article, and yet the sheeples are lapping it up. The comments are beyond scary. They'd be funny as hell, if it didn't make it so obvious that there are huge masses of people who can't or won't check sources, read them, and then think for themselves. This country is doomed.

Okay, so I've read both the WND article and the original interview, and it's clear to me that this professor did not say what Rush and the right-wing media say he said. Meanwhile, here at 2peas we have two pages of responses, mostly by people who didn't read the entire thread and certainly did not read the original piece, castigating the author. Some of them will go out and tell their family and friends about that awful left-wing college professor who wants to outlaw bedtime stories. And their friends will tell their friends. And none of them will care that it isn't actually true. It just gives them another opportunity to complain about the race to the bottom in American (!!) society. Sooner or later, someone will say THANKS, OBAMA!! (Okay, that last part was just a joke. Sort of.) I just wish the OP had researched the facts before spreading this misinformation, and that sites like WND hadn't run with such a clear misinterpretation of the actual reporting. Nothing personal, scrapaddie. It happens here all the time, on all sides of the spectrum. It happens everywhere. This. A thousand times, this. Please, please, please people!!! Start checking source material. PLEASE.

Nothing personal, scrapaddie. It happens here all the time, on all sides of the spectrum. It happens everywhere. Surely this is the way of the world with everything that appears in news reports where the point talked about has either been read in just a headline and the first few lines, or it has been taken out of context to mean something it wasn't intended to mean in the first place! Part of the answer would be for media to stop using headlines and first paragraphs to highlight only a controversial part of the subject being covered. It is impossible for people to keep up with all reports and news these days and first impressions come from headlines and the beginning of the reporting on them or headlines sent across news feeds.

It is an article by an educational broadcaster and presenter of regular Sunday broadcasts in 'The Philosopher's Zone, and that particular edition of the series was called 'Family Values'. The article was published on 'The Philosopher's Zone' page of the Australian radio station web site. It features a typical Philosophy research paper written by British Philosophy Professors Adam Swift and Harry Brighouse, focusing particularly on Adam Swift, a political philosopher and sociologist, who was being interviewed. And to be honest, perhaps only easily understood at first reading by people interested in, and familiar with, the way a Philosophy paper is presented.....and even then, open to interpretation. Is it really any wonder that people read the headline and first paragraph of reports on it and go with that!
