My daughter would like to meet me in Scotland for 4 days at the beginning of June.
We'd arrive in Edinburgh on Tuesday, leave on Saturday.
With such a short amount of time, what are the must hit highlights?

I'm sure a genuine Scot will answer shortly!
It's been quite a few years since I was in Edinburgh but off the top of my head - the Castle, stroll along The Royal Mile, Camera Obscura, picnic in Princes Gardens and people watch, shop including Jenners which is the nearest thing you will get to Harrods in Scotland, open top bus ride, a show at the Playhouse and dinner beforehand at one of the Italian restaurants opposite (great food, fast service but so popular you really need to book), take in all the little shops and pubs on Rose Street which runs parallel to the main road Princes Street, the National Portrait Gallery, National Museum of Scotland go to Glasgow for a day - a totally different experience from Edinburgh. I'm sure there are walking tours and evening Ghost hunts too. Most places are within walking distance of the city centre or a quick bus ride.
Will you have a car or rely on public transport? If you have a car you can take off to any number of lovely places, Perthshire with it's fabulous scenery, castles here and there, the Lake District in England, Loch Lomond or maybe hop on a coach for a day trip somewhere.

I second everything Gillyp says. Instead of a stroll along The Royal Mile though, I would recommend getting a guidebook just for the Mile. There is so much history packed in to one street, it would be a shame to miss things. The Scottish Parliament is at the bottom and you can go in for a look. Holyrood Palace is just opposite, and at the top is Edinburgh Castle. There are loads of little museums and exhibitions and buildings of interest all the way up. You could easily spend hours in the National Museum in Chamber Street, and it is right next to the Greyfriar's Bobby statue and Greyfriars Kirkyard. If the weather is good, a guided walk of Arthur's Seat is worth doing. Camera Obscura will get you out of the rain for a few hours. If you you want to do a bit of upmarket shopping or watch the very wealthy do theirs, Harvey Nicolls is the place to go. Prebooked bus travel between Edinburgh and Glasgow is frequent and as cheap at £1.

Thanks. Will be sharing this with dd and see if we can come up with a game plan. I am so excited because I have never been to Scotland before.
