I am the (volunteer) site coordinator for a volunteer reading program at our neighborhood elementary school. This is my first year in the role. We are almost done for the year and I want to give my readers a token of appreciation. I've written them all thank you notes for their service and I arranged to have the students they read with make them bookmarks. What else do you think I should do for them? I have 18 readers and don't want to spend a fortune. Also, they are split roughly evenly between men and women and I would prefer to get them all more or less the same thing, so scented candles are probably not the way to go LOL
Help! I need ideas! What would you like to receive as a volunteer?

Honestly, I think the bookmarks and thank you notes are more than enough. Both are very thoughtful! In the past, I have received things like a notepad with the school name at the top and a pen, a plastic cup/straw (similar to the Starbucks cups) filled with M&M's and a scented candle ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg) . How about a pansy or some other inexpensive flowering plant or herb and wrap the base in colorful tissue paper? Pansy around her are usually .99$ or less.

Honestly, I usually just end up donating thank you gifts to Goodwill. I don't need another notepad or coffee cup and I'd rather that money went back into the program.
I love the idea of a bookmark. Especially coming from the child they helped. I would use that and remember the time spent with that child. And the child him/herself is essentially doing the gifting and thanking. That's a win for me.

I think the bookmarks and thank you notes are perfect for your situation.

I think bookmarks and thank you notes are a great idea. If you wanted to add a little something more how about a $5 or $10 Barnes & Noble GC?

What you have planned is wonderful. I go by the adage, work for the cause not the applause. A thank you goes a long way... My volunteers appreciate the nice thank you emails and cards.

I think the cards and bookmarks are terrific and would very much be appreciated.
Instead of additional individual gifts Could you donate a book or 2 to the school library with a nameplate inside "In Honor of 2014-2015 Readers" and list out their names?

We aren't a school program, so I think what I will do is buy some books to donate to our program's "permanent library" and put some book plates in them with their names. We just restarted this program at the school this year, so we don't have a permanent library at all, just our giveaway books. They will appreciate building the permanent collection.
