I saw the Heidi Swapp Minc advertised when it first came out, and then heard that HSN had an Anna Griffin Minc for sale recently. What's the difference between the two machines? Is it like the Anna Griffin Cuttlebug, where it's got her name on it and it comes in gold but it's just a regular Cuttlebug? Inquiring minds want to know! TIA!

I think the Anna one is smaller and marketed to card makers.
edit: the Anna one is 6". And the Heidi branded one is 12"

You can get the same results by using a $20 laminator. Jennifer McGuire has a video on how to do it on her blog. Karen

Karen-in-Indiana and Loydene - I saw those videos a month or so ago and thought of that when I was in a store the other day that had the laminators. I was curious why there'd be two expensive machines by the same company that do the same thing.

I'm lucky that I purchased the YourStory machine by PC several years back. I've only used it twice and that was for the laminator that's on it. So glad that I have it now! I've purchased some foil but haven't tried it yet. Karen

It's because manufacturers know that they can charge more for anything they remarket as a Scrapbook item. Just like when they make anything in pink, it will sell more than if it was just a regular color. It's just marketing. I recently tried foiling with a heat laminator I already had at home and it worked great. I heard you can even run it through your laser printer again and the heat from that will set the foil. Don't get sucked into the targeted marketing and overcharging brought about by those "celebrity" machines when a regular laminator will do just fine.

A scrapbook store owner once, in my presence, said "They (referring to scrapbookers) will buy anything." The statement might be true, it might not be true -- it was the attitude I found to be an issue. But, unfortunately, it sometimes really seems true -- all the regular products that were produced in pink a big example of that sort of marketing. I don't know whether or not papersilly is correct, but I believe what she says about the manufacturers! And sorry -- I missed the point with your initial question -- but I thought it was great of Jennifer McGuire to show so many other ways to get the foil look without purchasing a "Minc" or its other celebrity equivalent and wanted to spread the word!
