I have used post bound scrapbooks since I started, about 20 years ago. ( Holy Crap!) I recently used a D-ring album to store my completed pages in until I could buy an album for that topic, and I think I like it! I thought I'd hate the gap, but it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It DOES bug me ALOT that the D ring covers are bigger and don't fit on my shelves as well as the post bound albums, sigh.....but, Man, I got a bunch of layouts in the d ring, like 60. Which made me start to wonder.....How many, on average, do you put in your post bound, and D ring albums?

I have different sizes of D rings but they are usually stuffed full. I store my 12x12 D rings lying down because the pages sag and get bent when stored standing. I only use 12x12 for travel. I like post bound and I use them for shorter trips, but usually need more pages than they will hold.

It depends on how thickly embellished my layouts are, but like you, I can easily get 50-60 pages in a 3 ring album.
They are all I use.

I don't use D-rings. I don't like the gap, don't like it when the rings separate and the pages fall out and don't like that they aren't expandable.
All of my post bound albums are like 3" thick. Some might be even thicker than that. I don't know how many layouts are in each one but they hold a lot. I switched out the posts in mine with the Pioneer SnapLoad strap things. It's so much easier than using the posts with extenders or even really long solid posts from the hardware store because the straps are exactly as long as they need to be for the number of pages in the album. They work great.

However, the rest of my albums are either the actual Pioneer Snapload albums (love) or post bound converted to snapload with the retrofit snap load kits.

If you have a mix of one and 2 page LOs, You can sew the plastic page holder (totally blanked on what they are called LOL) together. I think Shimelle is who I learned this from.

I actually use my D ring like you're doing now - basically as a 'staging' album until I get all the pages done and then I can transfer them to my post bound albums (I don't like the gap).
I do find I can fit far more in the D ring as they are sturdier. Too many pages and the posts get wobbly. In my post bound, I put about 30 page protectors, so that means 60 pages (right?). I fit more in the D ring, but I have never counted.

This might be a good temporary solution for my post bound albums until I decide between converting to D ring or going the SnapLoad route. I've been adding extenders and it's a royal PITA.

I actually have been combining some of my albums into binders. They end up taking less room on the shelf, although it took some adjusting to get them to fit on the shelves.

They are called screw posts, and you can find them with the nuts and bolts. Don't bother looking at a place like Home Depot though, they won't have the long ones. You have to check at a real hardware store that has a better selection of individual bolts and stuff. I think the longest ones I've been able to find are about 3" long.

Since I mostly scrap double page layouts I DO NOT LIKE D ring binders. The gap just messes with the over all design! My strap hinge albums and post albums usually top out at about 40 page protectors give or take.

I hate D ring, but use them for travel albums as I can usually get 45 page protectors in there. Post bound never have enough pages for me. I cannot for the life of me get them to extend right. I like the CM strap hinge albums with the side loading page protectors - not the old kind where you had have a page first and then a put a page protector over top. I did this video on my youtube channel to show them www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0PLLTkjGhU

I use mostly 8.5x11 D ring and I get about 50 pages in a WRMK. I use lots of different D Ring 12x12 over the years so it depends on the width - anywhere from 50 to 70.
This weekend I am using a military album by K&Co that is post bound and I am using lots of papers and embellies and memorabilia that is really filling the album. The album will have about 44 layouts when it is done but I have to get some pioneer snap load to hold the pages, or some 1.5 inch Chicago screws.

I get about 3osih layouts in my WRMK d ring albums - but I have very chunky / dimensional pages...

I only use post-bound albums and can get 25-30 page protectors in it, so 50-60 layouts total. Depends on how thick the embellishments were for that year. I also use a D-ring album for staging until I've completed all but a few LO's. Once I make sure they are in order and missing LO's are labeled with a sticky note, I transfer it to a post-bound album.

I thought the gap would bother me too but it doesnt, I love using rings now over the post. I also think it keeps the pages nicer since they dont get so tight. I have about 30 pages in my 2014 album.
