This! It's long, hard and lonely but one if the best things for so many of our young men and women. My dh has pushed boots twice and even though he was tough he cared about his recruits Hang in there and know people are watching out for him while he's away. It's been six years and I miss my Drill Sergeant something fierce. He became my biggest hero in life in those short 3 months. I'm glad to hear this Dh still has former recruits look him up from time to time and he loves it!! He's retired now and I know he misses the Navy. hmmmm, I should probably do something nice for him today. Thanks for reminding me of all he's given

My DH is veteran and says it was one of the best decisions he ever made. He traveled, got an education, and served our country.
Sometimes I think they should have an award for all the moms out there of our servicemen and women! Wishing your son and you a great experience...

Oh my gosh, I remember those months SOO well! I longed for the days when boys would sign up and leave the next day. LOL It was such a rollercoaster waiting.

***Update may be too strong of a word for it... ...but last night, around 2 am, I got what has to be the sweetest text a mom could ever get. And considering it came from my extremely non-communicative kid-it is even sweeter. Basically he told me that I was an amazing mom, that he loved me and that he appreciated that I put up with all his antics. (I suspect that it was the equivalent to the I got here and am okay phone call that they are allowed.) Made me boo-hoo in the middle of the night, and frankly a bit of a boo-hooing during today too. Aw, that is so sweet. Big hugs.

Hugs from another military mom!
Mine left his bedroom a wreck which was very much out of character for him. But it smelled like my son so I would go in his room to cry everyday for two weeks. There have been many heartfelt messages from him since. And basic training is where he began maturing. I am so very proud of my son!
It does get easier when you see that your child loves his career.
