Those of you who are colouring Johanna Basford's Secret Garden will recognise this design. It isn't coloured with markers, pencils, or any other drawing medium... it is embroidered. And absolutely stunning. Secret Garden Hummingbirds
She has dozens of posts detailing the whole process from start to currently not quite finished. My only stitching experience is cross-stitch, so it's instantly out of my league, but from what I can see she is incredibly skilled/talented. I don't remember exactly how I stumbled across it, but I just had to share.

Beautiful!!
When I was a teen, I used to embroidery some. I would complete a project then get bored with it and put it down for a while and then come back and do some more. My favorite project that I ever worked was a "Work" shirt that I embroidered. Do any of the 50+ year old refupeas remember when this was super popular. The "Work" shirt (that is what we called them) were blue, long sleeve with a collar, button up shirts. Most people bought embroidery patterns to iron on in the fabric stores. They were patterns like any other pattern. My shirt had some of these but I loved Snoopy back then so I bought a Peanuts coloring book and cut out pictures like Snoopy on his dog house. I traced them onto my shirt and then had to fill in the lines of the drawing. I then embroidered these designs on my shirt. My shirt was unique from everyone elses and everyone always wanted to know where I bought my patterns. I wish I still had that shirt. I have no idea what happened to it. I probably wore it out. LOL

LOL The blue workshirt was one of my first projects. I also embroidered on that God awful blue bloomer onsie gymsuit thing we had to wear in middle school. A lot of us did that.

Holy crow. That is amazing!
I've done some embroidery (nowhere near that quality, of course) but I prefer counted thread embroidery. I like the mathematical feeling to it. But it's never going to be as beautiful as that.

I had a blue onsie gym suit too. We had to wear ours through our high school years. Mine wasn't a bloomer though but it sure was ugly. I didn't embroidery on it. I did have all my little badges that I got for most of the athletics we did. I was very athletic when I was in school and pretty good at most of them except softball. I hated softball and never really tried so I have no idea if I could have earned that badge or not. LOL Those were sewn on to our uniforms.

Wow! That's gorgeous! I'm a little jealous 'cause I could never do that--I have zero patience for cross-stitch/embroidery/anything with a sewing needle! She's very talented!

Thanks for sharing that jennyap, it's really beautiful. I think I can safely say that if I ever got to be that good, my eyes would be so old and feeble I would need the Hubble telescope in order to thread the needle and see what I am doing. (I can say that since I already use both a step up in my reading glasses strength along with sometimes have to use the magnifier in the light to see what I am doing. )

That's amazing! I believe that if you make a copy of something on an inkjet printer you can iron it on fabric. I don't know if it washes out, though. Thanks for sharing the idea!
