I recently reconnected with a high school friend through Facebook. She has a two year old daughter with severe medical issues and she was just admitted to the hospital again. I am going to see them tomorrow and feel like I should bring something, but no idea what!! To give you a little background, she also has an infant and a preschooler and I am pretty sure she is spending all of her time at the hospital now. I cannot even imagine what they are going through and want to show my support but don't know how. And of course when I ask her what I can bring, she says nothing!!

A new book, coloring book, something that will keep her occupied but quiet. Maybe a DVD of a newer movie or her favorite tv show. Sweet of you to bring her something.

Gosh, two is such a tough age for "staying still" activities, especially if you don't know her well. The only thing that came to my mind was those color wonder coloring books/markers (or finger paints). They're not messy and they come in lots of characters she might know.

A travel size magna Doodle or a sticker book.
That's so sweet of you!

That is a hard age. Nice of you to want to bring something. The preschooler is likely feeling like he/she is lacking some attention, can you afford to bring something for all the children? Something to share or one small thing each? What a horrible thing for your friend to go through. Sending good thoughts.

Reusable sticker sheets, color wonder, coloring books, magic marker (the ones with a white pen that colors every color), viewmaster, stickers

Look up "busy bags" on pinterest. There are lots of ideas there that would be perfect for that age range. Some ideas might include color matching, lacing cards, dry erase markers and some laminated cards, felt snake, stickers, popsicle puzzles, beads on pipe cleaners and other ideas. Seriously pinterest in is a gold mine of busy bag ideas. Many of these can be made inexpensively.
My nephew was about 2 when he spent 5 weeks in hospital after fracturing his femur. I made up some busy bags to help him and his parents pass the time.

My two year old is also into playdoh, 2 or 3 piece puzzles and Mr. Potato head.

Thanks for all the ideas!! I can't believe I didn't think about Busy Bags...I was the queen of busy bags when my son was younger. I bet I have a ton of stuff in his stash that I can pull out. I also have a lot of folder games that I made. I think I will put together a few of those gently used things and then stop somewhere for a new book or coloring book or something like that. Feeling much more confident about this visit tomorrow, thanks again!!
