Wondering as I "almost" choked on a piece of Polish sausage!
I immediately thought about my aunt who had a friend, a nurse, that almost choked on a hot dog, and never ever ate when she was alone again.
Made me really think!

Not very often, although I eat with a four year old... not sure she would be much help in a choking situation. I think never eating alone is a rather drastic measure. Lots of adults live alone and manage not to die from choking.

yes I do but it's usually surrounded by other people. so, if I choke, I'm hoping someone will notice and take swift action. now if I'm home, I hope i'll be able to dial 9-1-1 while I'm slamming myself against the counter to dislodge whatever. LOL

I do I'm single and live alone. I prefer to eat with others but circumstances force me to eat alone a lot.

Yes. I'm home during the day alone. I couldn't go all day without eating.

Yes I do...quite often. I'd be so freaking skinny if I only ate when people were around.

I'm home alone during the day, so I eat alone also. And there are plenty of singles that do it. It was a little bit of scare I tell ya. I wonder how the nurse pulled that off.

I do I'm single and live alone. I prefer to eat with others but circumstances force me to eat alone a lot. The only difference for me is that I have teenager who lives here about 65% of the time-but he is in school and works, so I eat alone more often than not. No real choice in the matter, unless I completely changed my life to only eat out restaurants.

All the time. I love to eat by myself and read.
I never thought about choking with nobody around.
There are usually people around, but I don't know them.

My BF is out of town on business for three days... if I didn't eat alone, I wouldn't eat at all.
I gotta say, these kind of posts make me wonder, sometimes... (just because I lived on my own for a good portion of my adult life, and if I didn't do things by myself, there'd be no other way to do them.)

This actually happened to my mom several years ago. She was home alone, standing at the sink, fixing her lunch. She popped something in her mouth and it got stuck. She was choking and slammed herself against the counter and it dislodged. Could have go the other way so easily! She still eats alone sometimes because my Dad is gone for his job a lot and for days at a time. A girl's gotta eat! I go home almost every day for lunch so I do eat along quite often.

I live alone. No way am I going to only eat out. I can easily eat lunch M-F most weeks at work but weekends, evenings, holidays... it is just me. I'm not going to go from lunch on Friday to lunch on Monday just to eat with people.

Yes, 5 days a week. My husband is a freight haul driver and is never home before 9pm M-F. Unless I go out to eat with someone I eat lunch and dinner by myself.

Sometimes I'm afraid that I do know how to behave when I eat with others! It is actually harder to linger at a table and make small talk when you're not doing it regularly.

I immediately thought about my aunt who had a friend, a nurse, that almost choked on a hot dog, and never ever ate when she was alone again. Wouldn't it just be easier to cut everything up in small pieces, rather than never eat alone? Seems like it would be pretty easy to drown alone, but I wouldn't feel the need to line up a shower buddy.

It's never once occurred to me not to eat alone in case of choking. I eat alone all the time, breakfast and lunch and sometimes dinner too if DH is traveling. I'd be awfully hungry if I had to wait for a companion.
I could faint on the toilet and hit my head, too, but somehow I manage to bravely poop alone day after day. I drive alone, run alone, shop alone. The only thing I won't do alone is go to the movies.

Of course I eat alone.
Surely we all do things every day that are potentially dangerous, or that might result in problems, harm, or even death.
You might trip over, knock yourself out, and bleed to death, while alone. Even if you don't bleed to death, you might break your arm. Or both of them them. Every day we read of car accidents, yet I guarantee all of us still travel by car. You might cut yourself while chopping up vegetables, but you still chop up vegetables, even when alone.
Should we stop everything that could possibly cause a problem, just in case?
COULD we stop everything that could possibly cause a problem, just in case?

I live alone so of course I eat alone. I also know how to do Heimlich on myself. And seriously, I can't worry about every little thing that could happen.

But I'm in an office with someone else, so it's all good.

Fell down and bumped my head, knocked my knew and landed on my ass. Fortunately it was more my pride that was hurt more than anything else. Since I am alone more often than not, it could have been days before anyone noticed that I was AWOL from life. Well, the cats would definitely notice that they hadn't been fed and would probably be circling around trying to determine which body part to nibble on first...but beyond that? I can't wait until someone is here to shower-I would stink like a baboon in the jungle. But I am big old klutz who really needs to pay more attention to myself. LOL

Knew someone whose kids were not allowed to eat anything while they had a babysitter in their home. She was very fearful of them choking.
