We have cruised twice, but never had the opportunity to purchase an adult beverage drink package before. I like the idea! I am not a huge drinker, but on vacation, I enjoy some fruity specials, and an occasional cold beer. My DH is more of a drinker than I. It seems like a no brainer to me with the cost of alcoholic beverages on a cruise ship, but my DH has some reservations. Share your experiences with me please if you have purchased this package. Are their "hidden" fees? from what I have read, other than an occasional tax that is added to your sign and sail card, no - so do tell . . .

My daughter just got back Saturday from a carnival cruise and purchased the cheers program. She said it was so worth it. They were kids so drank a lot but she said the drinks were like $12-15 normally so it wouldn't take many drinks to get to the price. I asked her if they were the usual weak drinks you get on specials and she said definitely not. One of their friends ran up a $400 bar tab the first night before getting on the cheers program. She said she did not ever drink the 15 drinks allowed, but her BF did. Even without doing all the drinks, she said it was worth it.

She didn't say anything about hidden fees. They did tip the bartender well, in which case he allowed the BF a few of her drinks when he maxed out. But I don't think that is standard.

Yeah, one of the reviews I read stated that they use your cruise photo to prove it is the "purchaser". Which I am totally ok with. My daughter just got back Saturday from a carnival cruise and purchased the cheers program. She said it was so worth it. It will be worth it, thanks krc11 - I will share this info with DH tonight when we finalize our plans!

Double check that the purchase of the package is not subject to automatic gratuity. You may get an extra 15% charge on top of the $400. stacy

Unless they plan on drinking 15 drinks a day, it's not worth it. Remember, you are in port for several days too so you don't drink as much then.

For me personally, not worth it. I might drink 1-2 drinks a day - and that's a big MIGHT.
Like others said, check the gratuity, they usually automatically charge that on top of the purchase price. I know some of the lines have gone from the standard 15% to 18% as well now.

I feel like I have the potential to drink a lot on a tropical vacation but we priced it out and there was no way i'd drink enough to justify it with being in ports and whatnot. I'd be peeing nonstop and that many drinks in a day would have us falling over sloppy.
I really hate that if one person in the cabin does the program everyone else has to do it if they're over 21 years old. My dh didn't drink at all on our last cruise so it would've been a total waste.

I googled it and it said 15 drinks per day, as long as the drinks were less than $10 each. And you can't pay for just one day. It's every day or not at all. I don't think it seems like a "no-brainer." If you were ordering $8 drinks, you'd have to drink at least 7 per day, every day, to make the plan cheaper than paying per drink. I don't know that I would do that.

I just saw a big long post on FB about patrons being ignored on a recent Carnival Cruise and told by the waiters to go to the bar to get their own drinks, because even though gratuity is supposed to be included in the program, the waiters were saying they did not receive the gratuity for drinks served to program patrons.
BUT -I've never used it personally, just saw your post title and it drew me in.

I did Royal just last month. I was completely opposed to doing the beverage package. I am not a big drinker so I didn't think I would need it. Within an hour of boarding the ship both myself and my husband got the package. It cost us $350. It was money well spent. They had packages priced out. We did a max plan. The only thing it didn't include was select wines.
On our trip everything with the except of coffee, tea and lemonade were an expense. I would research that. It was the best choice we made on our trip. And the drinks by the pool go down very smoothly!!
Have FUN!!

We cruise carnival once a year... the past 2 yrs we bought cheers... for us it is a good deal... we get beer or margaritas all the time when we go out... this makes it more all inclusive for us... no worries about what to try or if I didn't like it feeling I needed to finish it because it cost 10 bucks... I feel if u get about 5 a day u do better with cheers... sea days its easy to go past 5... but u don't have to get 15 to get ur moneys worth..
Get the twilight zone!!! Its my favorite n it is yummmmyyyyyy

Double check that the purchase of the package is not subject to automatic gratuity. You may get an extra 15% charge on top of the $400. stacy It was my understanding (from what I read) that they automatically include the 15% gratuity to the prepaid purchase price. So, the daily price would be $49.95 and they add the 15%, making it actually cost $57.44 per person a day. I feel like I have the potential to drink a lot on a tropical vacation but we priced it out and there was no way i'd drink enough to justify it with being in ports and whatnot. I agree with @stephdrebel about the "everyone over 21 must purchase the program". And from what I have read, they are sticklers on this! It is a definite requirement, which for us on this trip would be ok, because it is only DH and I. What I do like about the program is it also includes any soda and the frozen non-alcoholic drinks if you want them! I would have some margaritas and a few cold beers most likely, and I think the way I figured it out, is if I had a few drinks + a few sodas each day, I am paying for it at the $57 a day fee.

When we purchase it, we really pay $115. But, we don't pay tips at each individual soda fill. Stacy

I have not in the past but we plan on it for our November cruise. We will have 3 sea days on this 8 day so I feel like it will be worth it. My husband drinks beer and lots of it on a cruise. I like the fruity drinks but sometimes I am hesitant on ordering one if I fear I might not like it. With this I can order whatever and not have guilt if I do not like it. 15 seems like a lot, but my drinks usually cost me 8 bucks a piece so in order to break even with the $55/day that is less than 7. 7 to me is not that many when you figure in all day long. We stay up late and go to the comedy shows and the deck parties and hang out in the casino too so we stretch 24 hours as long as we can. I have only got sloppy drunk once. That was in Cozumel at an all inclusive resort we went to for an excursion. I still do not know how we made it back to the ship! Dh is never sloppy drunk on beer. Give him patron and that is another story....but that is a rare occurrence.

It depends on what's included and how you'd use it. My ILs LOVE the all inclusive program and feel the cost is a value for them. Then again, they like to go to the bar each night and have 2-3 drinks. For them, cruising means sitting on a deck chair and watching the water, they don't often go into port. How much time will you actually be on the ship?
For me it would come down to does it include soda, tea etc? Then it would be a deal. DH and I are both big soda people, especially on vacation. Add that into 2-3 drinks in the evening and it could be worth it.
I'd price it out based on what your family would typically consume, then go from there.

We went in February and did it as did almost everyone in our group. It was worth it for us and it does include gratuity. There are no hidden costs. We had a few favorite bartenders and chose to tip them extra every now and then but we didn't tip every bartender for every drink. We were never ignored or treated any other way than excellent. We were not sloppy drunk at all but I will say, I had a mimosa (or two) to start my day, every day! I'd have another drink before lunch. A few more in the afternoon and then "a few" in the evening. I think the most I had was 10 drinks in a day, and that was only once. I never got to 15. We were on a 5 day cruise and only left the ship once and that was only for a few hours. The second port it was storming (rain, thunder, lightening) so we just stayed on the ship. We most definitely got our money's worth.
