Daughter and her fiancee are switching vehicles to Geico as its cheaper, but is it cheaper good or cheaper bad?
They actually already insured her car without telling me and I pitched a fit and she pulled it off the policy. I haven't even gotten a quote on adding him to my policy on that car yet to know that Geico is cheaper-which it may be,but golly girl have some patience and lets do all the steps and be legal about it, not even sure how they insured it elsewhere without me in the first place
Her car is technically in my name. I had no intentions of switching it to her name, but also didn't realize she was going to want to switch insurance. She really can't afford to buy it from me, but I'm not sure if its worth the battle and am considering signing the thing over to her just to wash my hands of it(I currently have it insured with State Farm). My thoughts have been if the car stays in my name at least I know they can't get a wild hair and trade it in on a high dollar car payment mistake.
Really not sure what to do. Stand my ground and keep the car in my name and have a say in the insurance, or sign it over to her and be out the money from having bought it(its not a super expensive car but we all pooled out $ to buy it, I paid $2000, she paid $1000 and my now 17yr old paid $500) I could almost let my part slide just to be done with it but I won't let her do that to her brother, she WILL have to pay him his part at the very absolute least.
ANYWAY anyone have any opinion on Geico ?

I'm with Geico and have been for several years. They have great customer service and I've been happy with their rates. That being said, I've never been in an accident since being with them.

DH works in the auto collision industry and used to deal with insurance companies on a daily basis. Geico is one of two companies we will never use.

If they are paying the insurance, why are you worried about who it is with?
I find this very odd. She is getting married, but needs your permission to get a car insured. Is she the owner of the car? I get that you pooled money, but whose car is it? Seems to me like they were being smart by a) adding him to the policy and b) shopping for good rates.

If you are the titled owner of the car, give your insurance agent a call. With the company I write business for, we would deny the claim if your daughter filed one. She is not the legal owner of the property and we don't have to make her whole in the event of a loss. You would have to be named as an additional insured on her policy for us to honor the claim. There is also the issue of liability. In the state where I write business, liability is tied to the titled owner. If your daughter had an accident and the claim denied because the car isn't hers to insure, the wronged party could go after the titled owner. If the car is not on your policy, you have no coverage and are in for a potential legal battle. This isn't just speculation. It just happened in our office. A client was driving drunk, ran into several parked cars, and fled the scene. Car that was insured was owned by client's mother but she never reported that to us. Claim denied. Mother is being sued for the damage to three parked cars and received no money for the damage to the car her daughter was using and insuring with us.

We have them. No complaints, but we've yet to file a claim.

We have Geico and have been very happy. DD was involved in a very minor accident last year and it turned out the other driver was also Geico insured. I loved the way they handled the claim and interviewed DD.

I would be VERY surprised if State Farm allowed you to add your DD's fiance' to your auto policy. EVEN IF THEY DID, personally, I would not want that kind of liability, if I were in your shoes.
We're kind of in the same boat...although there's no fiance' involved yet. We hold the title to the vehicle. We provide and pay for insurance. (we even pay for maintenance of the vehicle, but that's a whole other can of worms) I would love nothing more than to sign the vehicle over to her and getting her off of our insurance. There comes a time when from a financial and liability standpoint, it's best to remove your young adults from your policy. If she's ever in a wreck, I don't want to end up being sued. Covering that liability for a teen aged driver is one thing. For a young adult who is soon to graduate from college...that's a whole other story, IMO.
I'd love to transfer the title to her, but she could not afford her own insurance OR even pay for maintenance of the car. We've always said that she can't own the car until she can pay the fees to use it. While she's not there (and she's TERRIBLE with money...I have doubts that she'll be responsible for a vehicle before she's 30) I would still love nothing more than to remove her from our liability.
When could your DD pay her brother $500? Maybe even working out some kind of payment plan for her to pay her brother.

I don't have them, but once someone's not very secured surfboard flew off their car roof and slid under my truck on the freeway, and caused some damage. The guy had already called them, by the time I got home and called. They took care of everything without question. No hassles about a rental car or anything. I didn't even have to ask. They offered it. I was impressed with their service.

I have had Geico for years - with teen drivers, and worked in autobody and dealer claims for 10+ years and have had great expereinces and rates with them. Have had to file a few claims - someone hit my parked car, my son had an accident, and we had a few windhield glass claims (living n rural roads) and they were excellent.

well its good to hear that Geico is good anyway... and I've decided I'm signing the car over to her, mostly so I can just get out from under any liability with it and be done. Now just gotta find out if should wait til after the wedding(its Sunday) since her name will change, or if we can take care of it all tomorrow, plus its two different counties(she's living here still but they have an apartment that he is already living in)
