I use this salad container from sweetgreen to hold my lunch. I haven't seen anyone else have it in the fridge. Yesterday there was a meeting in the conference room with lots of sandwiches left so I grabbed the vegetarian one still wrapped in paper and put it in my now empty salad container to store in the fridge until I leave the office. I did that to guarantee that flavor would still be left. The rest of the sandwiches were also in the fridge in the top of a cardbox box holding them. At the end of the day I open the fridge and there's still a ton of sandwiches left in the box but my salad container was gone. Then I noticed it was sitting in the sink open and empty. Why would someone take a sandwich that is clearly in someone's private container? To me it's just the oddest thing. lol

Because stolen food tastes better??
I don't get why people steal food, I just know they do.

That is weird but then again, people are weird about food in the workplace. Honestly, I think someone probably did it just to spite you. They probably threw away the sandwich. People are that strange. I'm not saying anything negative about you, just the stupidity of others.

Was it the only vegetarian one leftover? Maybe the thief also wanted to take the vegetarian one that was leftover and didn't think it was fair that you got it.

You could have a box, securely wrapped in duct tape, locked in a drawer and there are work people that will try to mess with it.
There are some work places that leaving your food unattended becomes almost a combat sport.

Why do people steal? Because the world revolves around their wishes and they don't give a shit about others.

People are that strange. I'm not saying anything negative about you, just the stupidity of others. I thought about that but I'm not sure anyone would know that was my container? Plus don't think I have any enemies. Luckily there were still vegetarian sandwiches left over in the box.

I'd send an e-mail to the group saying "for whoever took the sandwich out of my Sweetgreen container in the fridge...thanks for at least NOT taking my container." But that's just what I'D do! lol

But that's just what I'D do! lol I thought about sending an email saying my container was missing, as in I didn't see it in the sink, to see who would fess up. One of my co-workers told me to check everyone's trash can for the sandwich wrapping as it was the end of the day. lol We did have 3 visiting IT people here yesterday so I'm wondering if it was them. I'd like to think it was an honest error, but I just don't get the thought process with doing that.

I don't see any way that could be an honest error. People are weird about food, like others have said. Maybe it was the cleaning lady you accused of stealing the phone? lol

I think someone else wanted a veggie sandwich for later too and saw you secure the only 1 left.
We used to have flight attendant training held where I worked and someone overheard one of them say "I never bring a lunch, there's always good stuff in the fridge here".

But she said there were more left in the box, so that can't be it. And your coworker? WTF? People never cease to amaze me . . .

Maybe they thought the salad container belonged to the office and it was one of many leftover sandwiches? That's all I've got.

The joys of a community refrigerator. We had food thieves at one place I worked. I literally starting writing my name in big letters and using tape to keep the dang thing shut. This meme always reminds me of that place. Attachments:

The only thing I can come up with is someone told someone else that they could go get a sandwich from the fridge, and the person assumed that the other sandwiches were for an event so they assumed the one the coworker told them to eat was the one in the container. Then they nicelely washed out the container.
Or, when putzing in the fridger they knocked your container onto the floor, and it fell open or something so they dumped the food and washed out the container.
That's all I've got. But I would be asking around, no doubt.

I had a boss that would go into the fridge and take whatever he wanted regardless if it was in a container or not. Irked the hell out of me because not only was it stealing, I didn't have anything to eat for lunch!
I asked him about it one day and he flat out told me that it was his company, his fridge and I was his employee that he paid, so he would eat whatever he wanted. Yeah, he was a real peach and it didn't work there much longer after that.

It would have been too much for me to resist.

Also because that is an asshole thing to do.

People do weird things about food. They either leave their left overs for months on end, or they eat someone else's left overs. I'm sorry someone ate your food.

We used to have a lunch thief who would go through lunches and only take part - like just your yogurt, or just the turkey off your sandwich (and leave the bread behind). She would also take any sort of restaurant leftovers - if you brought your leftover Olive Garden, for example, it would disappear. She would go from floor to floor "shopping" for her lunch. Crazy.
